2011 UCSF MEPN Applicants

Published

Hi,

Is there anyone lurking who is planning to apply to the 2011 program?

I have spent the last 12 years in financial marketing/communications and am excited to try and change paths into nursing. I am currently taking my prerequisite courses at city college- stats and anatomy/physiology- and going in for the GRE Saturday. I'm volunteering at a children's hospital, which is causing me to consider the pediatric nurse practitioner track... I know UCSF is very competitive and it's a long-shot for someone like me to get in, but I feel like I have to try! If it doesn't happen next year, then I'll just keep building my volunteer experience and re-apply. Also on my mind is that if for some miracle I were to get in how I would pay for it.

But enough about me... what are some other candidates' takes on preperation, interests, anxieties, etc?

I realized that in the language section, the options are listed as below:

- Able to ask and answer complex questions without assistance

- Able to ask and answer complex questions with some assistance

- Able to ask and answer simple questions

- Able to give simple directions/instructions

So by listing them as above, are they saying that "Able to ask and answer complex questions without assistance" is the the most fluent level, and "Able to give simple directions/instructions" is the least fluent? IMO, at least in Spanish, asking and answering simple questions are easier than giving simple directions and instructions. Has anybody asked this question to UCSF nursing office?

Yay! Application is locked and all transcripts & LORs in!

Let the waiting begin! Good luck everyone!

Application locked! Suddenly I'm very, very nervous...

Mine is locked now too. GL, time to play the waiting game!

Locked...what a relief :) I'm really curious what percentage of 1st time applicants they take? This would be interesting to know (or, could result in more stressing out lol). Good luck everyone!

Someone told me it's around 1% for the CNM specialty. That seems insane, and likely wrong, but I don't think it's very high!

actually 1% seems totally believable...sadly... :/

Hello,

For those of you that have already locked their applications. What is the status when you log into the application? Mine says:

Your Application Status: Under Review

Thank you for applying to the 2011 MEPN program.

I would like to confirm that I've done this last step correctly.

Thank you very much for your help!

Hey Veggies -

I was wondering the same thing. My locked application says the same thing, but then it has GRE/TOEFL info below it including the confirmation that they've received my GRE scores. Is this what others are seeing?

Thanks,

C.

I am seeing the same thing on my locked application status. It will stay like that until December when you get your invitation for interview. Though I think the GRE/TOEFL info disappears after couple weeks..

Now its time to play the waiting game!

Yeah, that is exactly what my application shows as well. Good luck everyone! I am so anxious and nervous... Anyone else out there applying for the Psych/Mental Health Track?

Thank you very much! I also see the notes about GRE and TOEFL on my application status page.
