possible position

So through my networking, there is high possibility of openings but not until Feb at a hospital. it is my dream job. Again it is a high possibility although no guarantee yet.

Now i think its probably wise not to wait around for next year to roll around before i start applying for other jobs just in case.

suppose, i apply for other hospitals now and get interviews and offers i nthe next week. how would i delay giving them a decision until i know for certain about the dream job?

What would you do.

Isn't there an old saying about not counting chickens before they hatch? I think it applies in this case. The grad market is scary. I would keep on applying and take the job that is offered initially. Too many people are without jobs and too many people promise things that do not come through. If they cannot say "you'll start X date" then I would not count it.

I also would not count on a theoretical job offer. It's scary to think about but you may not get a job offer from any other hospitals. Wait till the situation happens before worrying too much.

In my case, I would take which one will offer you a position first. I've read too many horror stories of people not getting hired for a few months. I'm lucky my job is creating a position for me. However, I was burned initially when they were told no by the head supervisor because they needed people asap a month ago.

I had a similar scenario, I had been out of school for a bit and was called about a dream residency that was 4-5 months down the line. They sounded pretty interested but I wasn't going to bet on that. Lots can happen to that position in 4-5 months.

Take whatever offer you get initially

suppose i find a job next week , but not at my first choice. In February i interview and get an offer from my top choice. WOuld it be ok to quit my first job after 2 months? would I essentially be blacklisted from ever getting hired there again?

I would highly suggest you didn't do that, as a new grad you should stick it out at least a year unless the work conditions suck.
