I just graduated from an ADN and I know that we were not allowed to do 2 clinicals rotation in one semester. In my ADN program we were assigned to different units every semester. Med/Surg, Peds, OB, Cardiac.
On my third semester we did have PEDS/OB clinical on Tuesdays and Psych Clinicals on Mondays.
You might want to check with your school's program manager.
Hope this helps!!!!
In my Accelerated BSN program, we do at least 2 clinicals per "semester" (we actually do trimesters) from the 2nd thereon (we are in a 4 semester, 14 month program).
*2nd semester consists of OB, Peds, & Geriatric clinical rotations
*3rd semester consists of Med Surg I & II and Psych clinical rotations
*4th semester consists of ICU, community health, management, AND preceptorship clinical rotations
We *always* have 2 clinicals per semester in my BSN program.
We also have 2 clinicals per semester as well in my ADN program except for the very first semester. The first semester is just Fundamentals, then we have Med/Surg & Maternity, then Peds & Mental Health, then Advanced Chronic & Advanced Acute Care.
Can you ask a counselor at your school? Different states may have different requirements as to what order everything can be taken in. I'm in an accelerated program that doesn't "accelerate" until the last two semesters: semester 3 is Med surg I and II (integrated clinical) along with psych, and semester 4 (the killer) is peds/OB/women's health/community/leadership/preceptorship. Some of that is integrated as well, and preceptorship is last after we cram the first bunch into 7 weeks. I think it's 3 total clinicals that semester, with community which we do offsite and leadership somewhat less time-consuming than the rest. Our whole program is set in stone unless you fail somewhere and become "out of sequence," and most classes must be taken in seuence - can't progress to semester 4 curriculum unless you've passes both med-surg sections.
We are only allowed to do one clinical rotation at a time. Our clinicals follow what we're learning in lecture/theory. Plus the school has contracts with the hospitals and we have to abide by their schedule for us to be there, the contracts and when a clinical instructor can be present to oversee your work. Our first semester our clinical was at a LTC facility because we were learning basic nursing care and assessments. 2nd semester we had Med Surg I and our clinical was on a Med Surg floor (mish mosh of illnesses/surgeries etc..) 3rd semester we had Med Surg II and psych so our clinicals were divided between those 2 areas and next semester (my last, hooray!) Will be divided between OB and Peds.
Speak to the program coordinator about this if it's an option. Good luck to you!
