does positive TB result prevent me from becoming an RN

Published

Hello.

I am interested in pursuing a nursing career, but just today had a troublesome thought.

Years ago, I tested positive for carrying TB.

I took the whole course of isoniazide(did I remember the right spelling?)

at the health department.

As I was looking over the requirements for entry into the nursing program, it mentioned vaccinations and screenings.

Is this something that will bar me from nursing?

Thanks for any information.

Nope, won't prevent you at all. It may be a royal pain each time you get a new job.

I test positive, back before we knew better, i was exposed to a lot of BCG and now test positive. I just know I'm going to have to do the X-Ray and all that kind of crap.

Not at all, as long as you're not active right now. Many of us become exposed and convert while working, and as long as the chest x-ray is negative it's fine.

you just need a neg. cxr.

Thank you!

That is a huge weight off my mind.
