Hello all! I recently went to the doctor after trying to get pregnant for a year and found out I have polycystic ovary syndrome. She told me that she was gonna put me on Clomid, and it had general side effects. I looked up this drug in my books and it just gave me the diabetic definitions and side effects. I looked it up on the web and it said that it is an experimental drug used in women to induce ovulation. There were no results to any studies posted, and i was wondering if anyone has seen or heard of this type of therapy....
Thanks!!!
Debbie
I just want to wish you the best of luck.I have PCOS and endometriosis also.I'm having a lap next month to remove some adhesions.I'm currently on Yasmin and it has helped me lose alot of weight. She wants to start me on Glucophage at first. Then try Clomid if that doesn't work. She also recommend Glucophage the first trimester of pregnancy to prevent miscarriage.

Yah, as far I as I know my sister is more than willing to carry a child for me someday. I am grateful for that. Isn't it interesting though? My older sister and I both have PCOS and endometriosis. THe doctors at the teaching hospital here in Oregon were really interesting in that. Obviously there is some evidence of this being hereditary. I am very empathetic for anyone with PCOS and Endo its awful and painful. I had tried Lupron before and it was a disaster. I had the most awful mood swings ever, kinda like bipolar, changed my personality dramatically plus it didn't help that I was in nursing school at the same time. I stopped the Lupron after 6 months of misery and all those symptoms went away. Thank God. I have never heard of Clomid. I will have to look at that. Take care everyone and anyone with PCOS. Curlysue, I hope all goes well with you and that all your dreams will come true. You have alot to deal with at such a young age. I hope your sister will be open to carrying a baby for you? I think my sister or my daughter would be the only people I could ever carry a baby for. At 49 I'm past making that decison but it would be a beautiful thing to be able to do. Thanks for the info on Actos.
I have finally been referred to an endocrine specialist for PCOD (it's now classified as a disease) and to begin Glucaphage. I go on Wednesday. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. Finally, maybe I will get answers and results. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one in my profession experiencing it! I feel so naive, being in nursing and not really being educated thoroughly about it. I do know that I desparately want to have children, and hopefully will get to live that dream sooner than later! Glad to have support on the board!

I'm still on my Glucophage (when I am not nauseated). My ob/gyn told me that with PCOS, your miscarriage risk increases to 50% :uhoh21: ...and Glucophage does help decrease that risk. He wanted me to stay on it my entire pregnancy because it may also help decrease the occurence of gestational diabetes in us ladies who have PCOS-so far so good!
