Poll on job satisfaction

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I am in an MSN program at the University of Texas at Tyler. My latest paper writing episode is on nurse job satisfaction. I would appreciate your input (this is sort-of unofficial). My questions are- 1.Are you happy or unhappy in your job?

2.Why do you think you are happy or unhappy in your job?

3. Why do you think employers continue the status quo when they could read from the research how to improve your job?

1. Unhappy.

2. Because we are expected to produce too much, with too little..

and too fast.

3. Because they don't care. If they did, there wouldn't BE a

nursing shortage!

This is it in a nutshell! (thumbs up here) :)

One nurse to every five to eight patients.

Even doctors don't see more than one patient at a time.

Patients are understanding about that, but not when it comes to nurses. Some patients understand the workload of nurses and PCTs. Many do not.

How can we reach the patient population and fill them in on this fact? Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

1.Unhappy

2.Because its all about the money to the director

3.No changes will be made because that would cost money

1. I love what I do. I hate the way I am made to do my job.

2. I don't like all the paper work I am required to fill out. I have NO respect for my managers. I love the fact that in the OR I can focus on one patient at a time.

3. Things will never change because if the management doesn't think of it...then it will never even be considered. Even if the idea saves money. Believe me I had tried.....

1) extremely happy

2) teamwork with great nurses, and a wonderful nurse manager

3) keeping up the good work.

WOW! I do not have the titles or the experience that many of you may have, but the complaints that you have expressed are the same for a lot of CNAs. Nursing do not get the respect that it deserves. It is a sad situation, and I do not see changes coming in the near future.

This weekend I ended up having to provide care for over 20 residents in the nursing home. More than "State " allows, but what could I do? I wish I could give all of you the credit you deserve and a pat on the back!
