Anyone applied to PMHNP programs for Spring 2024 or Fall 2024 (fall 2023 welcome to weigh in)? I want to start a forum for questions and support.
1.) Where did you apply and for which cohort?
2.) Preference of school and is it online or in person?
3.) Personal background/stats (GPA, GRE, experience)
4.) Have you interviewed or scheduled an interview?
5.) Acceptance?
I'll start off with my information...
1.) Duke fall 2024, UPenn fall 2024, Vanderbilt fall 2024, Yale Spring 2024, Jefferson Spring 2024, La Salle Spring 2024, FDU Spring 2024. Looking into PMHNP DNP as well but haven't applied yet (Hopkins, UMD, Baylor, FSU).
2.) Preference probably UPenn and it's in person. Second choice Yale/Jefferson both are online.
3.) BSN 3.8, BS behavioral science 3.15 ish? I forget it was a long time ago. No GRE, 5+ years in various ICUs
4.) No interviews.. still submitting apps
5.) Not yet
Hello! I also am trying to get into a PMHNP program and fearful of investing into a Nursing Program that will not benefit me in the future. Has anyone ever heard of success stories from Maryville University PMHNP program? It states they are #3 online credited online PMHNP, however I do not ever hear of anyone mentioning Maryville? I have heard of chamberlain, walden, duke, etc... Any feedback would be appreciated!
Thank you!

1. Johns Hopkins PMHNP DNP Fall 24, Yale PMHNP MSN Fall 24, University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus PMHNP DNP Fall 24
2. Johns Hopkins if the financial aid package is reasonable or CU if not (will receive fin aid package for JHU 3/30). All are online programs with in-person intensives as I live in a rural area and have school-age children.
3. CU-Anschutz BSN (GPA 3.96). No GRE. 12 years experience as an RN in case management, perioperative nursing, community health, home health, public health, school nursing, and as a tutor for the Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence.
4. Interviewed for JHU and CU. Yale doesn't interview.
5. Accepted to JHU and CU. Yale won't send out notifications until mid-July, for some reason, 3 months after last deadline to accept for other 2 schools.

I haven't heard about Maryville's quality, although I see plenty of Maryville students on forums. People rave about Frontier. Have you also looked there?

Thank you for responding! I also saw some great reviews of Frontier and the passing rate for Boards above 93 %, which eases my concern for learning the necessary information needed to pass NCLEX. I did request information from Frontier.
I was having concern with Maryville, although stating #3, I wasn't reading any over and above reviews.
I've known several nurses that have or are going through Chamberlain - what's your thoughts on that program that you've heard? I'm not sure why I'm staying away from this program. I believe credit hours are cheaper than Maryville and Frontier. I just want to make sure I'm learning with as little frustration with online program and grasping knowledge taught to put into practice in the field as well as pass my Boards.
Thank you again for your guidance!

Hi Jess,
I don't have any personal experience with Chamberlain, although there seems to be a "your mileage may vary" with the for-profit schools (Chamberlain/Walden, etc.). Duke is in a completely different category. It is one of, if not, the most expensive schools, and although the education you will receive would be stellar, if cost is an issue, make sure you have the GPA, experience, community service, etc., to qualify for merit-based scholarships or a low EFC to qualify for need-based scholarships and grants. Otherwise, your return on investment may not be worth having the $$$ Duke degree as it would be worth the same as any other degree. However, it might be worth the financial investment if you are planning to get into research or policy or want a prestigious job.
I know there are several Chamberlain students and grads on this site, so I imagine a brief search for topics on the forum will give you the reviews you're looking for. Also, please look into how much assistance you get with clinical placement and preceptors. I'm not there yet, but I live in a rural area, and I know it's going to be an issue. You don't want a lack of support affecting whether or not you graduate when you've put so much effort (and $) into the coursework. Call each school or attend their info webinars, and make sure you ask that question.

Got accepted into all four and chose Vanderbilt due to its focus on holistic approach.
GPA 3.87, 10 years of RN experience.
When did you apply at Vanderbilt? Before the priority deadline or during rolling admissions? I have recently applied and am on pins and needles waiting a decision.
jynxariescat said:Wow! That gives me major hope! How were your stats? And how long from application to acceptance was it for you? I'm only on day 10 and I'm so anxious!
I hear you! It was about 2-3 weeks.
My GPA is 3.87 and I believe my statement of purpose and recommendation letters were appealing. I really hope you get in 🙂
