.Remember teachers in college are usually much nicer and more understanding than in high school .......I'm not in any way trying to discourage the OP from dropping out of high school (that should always be the last resort) however I find that a lot times people who struggled in high school do really good in college plus there is always help on the campus.
So....incredibly....misinformed. College professors are fall less inclined to hold your hand or listen to your excuses than high school teachers. Also, you seem confused on the meaning of "discourage". If you feel that dropping out should be a last resort, then you should discourage her from doing so ("I'm not in any way trying to discourage [her] from dropping out..."). I would think that after my last post [which you seem to be ignoring], you would finally admit that maybe you were giving poor advice and quietly slink away somewhere....
[also, its "do well in college", and more help is available to students on a high school campus than college.]
edit:
"...marriage should always come first to any career."
....wow. I suppose she should be barefoot and pregnant no less than a year later, as well.
my cousin in 1976 dropped out of HS, got married and had a baby at the age of 16. She went on to get her GED a yr later, in 1978 she had another child and in 1979 she started nursing school. She has been an RN ever since...
Yes, but you, like so many others, fail to make the distinction between dropping out due to pregnancy, and dropping out because you're failing the ninth grade....not to mention that things were very different in 1976.
Look on it from the bright side.Love and marriage should always come first to any career. You followed your heart and you did nothing wrong there. Now you have a family ,you achieved the best goal there is out there, now start planning to enroll for nursing school, you can do it!!!!
Thank you that really means a lot to me. that is very supportive of you, I really appreciate it. It is almost making me cry. :)
To the OP,
If you are in danger of failing, meet with your teachers immediately. GET HELP. There is help available to you and teachers are there for a reason. See also if you can find another student to tutor you. I don't know what your classes are but you should be studying at least 2-3 hours each day. If you work, I suggest cutting your hours. If you hang out with your friends too much, then you know you need to cut back on leisure time. Trust me when I say that if you are having a hard time now, think about when you are in college. College is ten times harder than high school. Now is the time to get yourself back on track. Please do not give up and quit.

I'm just using my cousins situation as an example. I belive if the OP has the determination and the will she can do it. None of us know her/him IRL so we really don't know exactly what type of grades she does get. We really don't know if she is encouraged at home or if she has to be the grown up at home. Do her parents encourage her to excel or is she having to take care of ill parents? We really don't know. So why jump to the assumption that she is failing do to the lack of intelligence (which is exaclty what you are doing) rather than it being a focal thing? Is she not focused on HS due to home life stressors or is it something else? Just because she is 16 does not mean that she does not know who she is or what she wants. My cousin is still married to the same man that she married in 1976. Not many marriages last that long when you get married so young.
If this is something the OP really wants then I belive it is something she will strive to do.

Did you not read the original post? She admits to trying her best, but still failing [multiple times] to pass the ninth grade. I never said it was due to a lack of intelligence, but due to a lack of having the necessary academic skills [which high school is supposed to teach you]. I never said she will never be a nurse, just that it's ridiculous to believe that you can fail out of the ninth grade and expect to go directly to college/nursing program with an eighth grade education and expect to be successful. You're so focused on being positive and encouraging that you're ignoring reality.

Yes I read the original post, and what I'm saying is her academic skills may be a focal problem such as ADHD..ect. We DON'T KNOW. I don't believe she said she was gonna go directly to college, she has to be accepted into the school first. If she gets her GED and can take classes at her pace. And take the classes that interest her, she may do better, some people do do better in college than what they did in HS. I know I did. I still struggled in some classes but I still had a better GPA than what I did when I graduated HS. My biggest problem was my math skills, i failed basic math more than once, but when I took Algebra in college I maintained a 3.0 average.
Don't just assume that her academic skills are poor just because she is failing the 9th grade. Sure academics is important, but don't jump to assumptions that nursing school would be harder for her. People have different strengths and weaknesses.
I was responding to LoveHospital and her absurd assertions regarding the OP. I'm sorry if you got caugth in the crossfire.
I believe LoveHospital was responding to my post not the OP's.
