"1. please be advised this chart reflects the best information available to cgfns as of february 28, 2005.

2. nurses educated in canada may have different requirements than those listed above.

3. all applicants should contact the state boards of nursing directly to verify current requirements for

both initial and endorsement licensure."

(source: cgfns website)

1) States that foreign RNs commonly choose to apply for initial licensure that does not require any service from CGFNS to be made eligible to sit for the NCLEX:

Vermont, New Mexico, CA

2) States that foreign RNs commonly choose to apply for initial licensure

that requires CGFNS' Credential Evaluation Service (CES):

Nevada, Florida, NJ, AZ, Illinois (plus TOEFL), Maryland (plus TOEFL or IELTS)

3) States that foreign RNs commonly choose to apply for initial licensure requires CGFNS' Exam/Certification (also note that this certification requires that you are licensed in your home country):

Pennsylvannia (CES only if endorsing from another State) , CT, Michigan

* Best bet would to narrow down your choices to 1-3 states you would like to work and live and go to their websites and read their instructions for foreign applicants in their application requirements under the "Licensure for Examination". This will also make sure that you get the updated information.

The US does not require work experience in your country, only that you have a completed transcript. Please read the sticky at the top of this forum called the "Primer" for all of the information that you will need.
