Please Recommend A Critical Care Book

Published

I graduate in December, and have heard the textbook we use for critical care is not too swift. Can you recommend a book that comes to the point and gives you the gouge on critical care nursing? I'd like to find something on the shorter, but more direct side, rather than anything entitled "...for Dummies". Thank you!

Kathy White is a great book. She is currently upgrading her book and the new one will be out in about a month.

Another vote for the Kathy White book. It's only $45 or so and is almost pocket-sized. Everyone on my critical care unit carries one.

I haven't seen the book by Kathy White, but a lot of my coworkers use NNCC checkmate series Trauma/ER or the Critical Care version. Does anybody know how Kathy White's book and the ones from NNCC compare? Any recommendations between the two?

No nurse should work critical care without kathy white book, best little pocket book to carry.

new in transplant icu,,,

would look into the kathy white book,,,,

how about a book in hemodynamics?

Kathy White's book had everything I ever needed to know for those STAT situations. Easy to use and find your way around in.

Best darn thing I ever spent my money on.

I'd like to know also, how the 2 compare. I already have Kathy White on my PDA.

Critical Care Checkmate is smaller and fits in a pocket. Kathy White is a bit more comprehensive, but does not fit in my pocket. (tissue paper thin pages, too)

In Albany NY we use Critical Care Nursing: Diagnosis & Management (4th Ed.) for critical care certification. It's comprehensive.

The book that I have used throughout my career for studying for the CCRN and whle finishing my BSN is AACN Clinical Desk Reference. This book will give you more than you ask for about any system and will provide you the majority of the answers you seek. It is not cheap costing me $140 several years ago, but I have not regreted the purchase.
