Please help with the Verbal part of the NLN exam !!!!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi everyone,

I was wondernig if anyone who have taken the NLN exam would be able to help me with some tips of how to prepare, pass and improve my score on the verbal part of NLN exam. I took the test in February and I did Ok in math and science (scored in high 80's), but I did not pass the verbal part of the exam . . .

I took all my prerequsites and general classes, I have outstanding grades, but I can not get into the nursing program without passing the verbal part and scoring high enough at the NLN exam.

Please HELP !!!

THANK YOU

Did you take a look at a review guide? At this stage in the game, I'd focus on the reading comprehension passages and not cramming vocabulary words. I took a look at the Jones & Bartlett review guide to familiarize myself with the style of questions asked.

I agree that memorizing vocabulary words is not the best use of your time! You could learn 5,000 new words, and you will probably not see any of those on the exam. I found the official NLN review guide combined with a couple of other guides for other tests an excellent way to prepare. Just read every single page in the guides, and take the practice tests over and over. It works, I promise!

I do have a oficial NLN review guide and I did go over some other ones . . . I had only two weeks before the exam and English is not my first language. Somehow I need to be able to practice reading and comprehension and improve my vocabulary, so I was wondering if there are any additional books/websites (you mentioned some other guides for other tests) that you could recommend. The thing is once you are familiar with the passage or you already went over those questions you know the answers, so that is why this does not seem to help me with verbal part.

Thanks for the advice
