I'm trying to formulate a short essay answering these two questions to boost ym chances of getting into a nursing program and become 1 step closer to my dream! My G.P.A is just average 3.2 so I know my essay will have to make up for my academic weakness. I am really stressing over writing this essay and would just like to make it as perfect as possible. I have a rough draft created but any input from more knowledgeable people here on ALLNURSES is greatly appreciated. PLEASEEEEEEE
1. You have a bias against pregnant women who smoke. You have a patient who is pregnant and smoking. How do you reconcile your bias to care for this patient?
2. You are in a clinical experience at the hospital. At the end of the day, your fellow student states that she was too afraid to give the patient a bed bath and didn't do it. A few minutes later, your clinicalinstructor comes to the floor. She asks your fellow student if she completed all of the tasks for the day. The student says, Yes and I documented everything, even the bed bathâ€. How would you approach this
situation?

The bed bath thing is on the nurse in question. You can not control anyone's practice but your own. Now if someone is abusing a patient, a complete different story, however, make sure your practice is where it should be, and let everyone else do the same.
Pregnant smoking woman- Again, her deal, and what she needs to have conversation with her MD about. You can not personalize anything in nursing. Professionally, you can only offer education, document said education, and move on. A nurse can not and should not be biased at work against patients.

I think it pretty much negates the point of you answering these yourself for us to do this for you. What do YOU think would be the right thing to do in these situations?

Seriously? I did my own homework/application essays and it is essential that you do your own. Why on earth would Internet strangers want to do someone else's work?
I hope that your username has nothing to do with your real name. All sorts of folks lurk on AN.com. Can you imagine if faculty at your chosen nursing school notice that one of their applicants is begging folks on the Internet to write their admissions essay?

Your first step is to tell us what YOU think about the questions, not ask for answers. What work have you done to answer these questions on your own? Only after seeing the work you have already put into these will people be more willing to help you out.
