Hello. How are you? I am a registered nurse in Houston, Texas. I will be moving to Chicago this summer. I need to find a job in Chicago. But I have no contacts. and still trying to figure out how to transfer my license. Please give some suggestions and advice. I have experience in oncology, education and long term care. I am so confused. Where should I start. Thank you so much for your help. I have been a nurse for 8 years in Texas.

Some of the major magnet hospitals in Chicago are Rush, NMH, University of Chicago, Children's Memorial, RIC, and Advocate Illinois Masonic. There are a few more though. The hospitals in Chicago are looking for experience, certifications, BSN, leadership, and community service. Make sure to highlight these areas in your resume.
Transferring your license is a pain, but easy enough. You will need to go to this website:
http://www.idfpr.com/dpr/who/nurs.asp
Click on the appropriate "written application" link for your licensure. Then, choose the "endorsement" application. Print and follow the steps for the endorsement requirements. Make sure to send everything in a neat package, otherwise receiving your license may be delayed.
Hope that helps

A few suggestions:
Check the web for Advocate Healthcare, Provena, Adventist, Edwards, in addition to whats above (some are in the burbs)
For LTC, try Manor Care
Lots of Chicago area listings on Monster.com
Chicago-Land is huge. Any specific areas you are focusing on?
Thank you guys for your replies. I have applied for couple of jobs on indeed. But only heard from 3 employers and they said they won't interview me until I have my IL license. I am finishing the paperwork for IL RN permit today and mailing it off soon. I am looking to work in the downtown area or close to it because my family will be working there.
I am very interested in working for University of Chicago but it seems like it will hard to get a job there. I am interested in working as a case manager, nurse consultant or a Utilization Review Nurse. Will be moving to IL next month
Thank you for your help. Have a great day :)
Lifes a journey: Those are great things to look case mgmnt. Have you got any experience with electronic records? The Midwest is getting heavy in electronic records. I have seen a lot of posts for epic help with go live days also if CM is in your range have you thought about a clinical documentation specialist position, this is a well kept secret I just took one of these jobs reviewing Medicare charts for complete documentation. It's challenging and changes day to day.
I have experience in reviewing medical records. I am also interested in working as a clinical documentation specialist. Congrats on the new job. Is it a full time position and are they still hiring. How is your job? Please let me know if you have any information on how I might be able to get a job in this field. Good Luck. Thank you so much for your help.
Go to indeed and type in clinical documentation in Chicago I found at least 4 jobs right off the bat. Where I work it's m- f full time. I seen one that was m- f with every 6th Saturday. So yes it's full time.
Thank you. I will apply today. I have applied to some jobs in the past but never heard anything. Should I call them after I apply online? Thank you for your help.
Do u have experience with epic charting?? Look up epic analyst they need RNs to help in that field too. Go lives are fun to work and entail teaching nurses to use the program it's full time. Are u wanting full time?
Calling is hard to say. Some have the human resources off campus.
Yes I want to work full time. I don't have experience with Epic. I was also looking for tuition reimbursement cause I will be starting school in August. Thank you for your help.
