I badly need help. Anyone out there, please heed my call!
I am applying into the AccBSN and I do not know if this is the right school in terms of cost.
The program is 1 year and the total tuition is $30,704. Fees are $1,164. So, total for tuition and fees are $31,868.
Then they gave me a breakdown of all other estimated costs for 3 semesters (1 year)
Indirect costs: $17,136
Room, Board, Transportation, Personal, Medical
And then I saw there was more!
Books - $4,139
Technology (if applicable) - $3,537
Service Learning - $420
Could someone please interpret to me what the Technology expense is?
Isn't it that if you go through nursing school and you practice on machines and other hospital items that is covered by the very expensive tuition and fees of $31,868?
What would cost $3,537 on top of the fees charged for use of machines or other technology in nursing school?
Could someone who went through the same experience explain to me what is Service Learning?
I need advice because this will guidance will help me to make the most important career change in my life.
Thank you to all who are compassionate about my dilemma.

I'd call the school to ask what those fees cover. Accelerated BSN programs are expensive. If you question your decision to become a nurse later while in school, it's pretty hard to decide to throw away all the money invested.

Why yes, this most certainly is the right school in terms of cost. The princely average nursing salaries of today easily justifies the mere
$57,000+ to attend this school for one entire year.
The $3537 Technology Fee includes use of the time travel machine required to bring Florence Nightingale to the present as Distinguished Visiting Professor for your Nursing Theory class.
The Service Learning Fee covers the costs to adequately service this institution of higher learning; primarily this consists of copious quantities of a non petroleum based surgical lube.
Hope that helps answer your questions.

Judging by the amount and that it was placed with books and such, I believe that the "technology" costs would be things like a laptop, software, PDA, etc.
The tuition rate is the only thing that seems somewhat high to me, but that is probably in line with what a typical private or out of state school would cost. If you truly want to earn a BSN and become an RN it will probably be worth the money.

WOW...the only thing you can cut out of that bill would be the books, as you could most likely buy those used on half.com.
The technology fee is for the computers you will use in the school at the learning lab, as well as some of the software they require you to have at home or we had those life like dumbies that had heart beats and blood pressure and you could cath them and get urine out. Nice and all but our technology fee raised when we got them.
What other options do you have?? I hate to see people spending that much money when I am sure there are other options out there, they may just require a longer wait list.
Best of luck.

Technology means you need to own a computer and probably and PDA. You should be able to get government loans. Depending on the state you live, you also may qualify for state loans. I ended up getting an extra $2k in scholarship money by basically applying to everything out there. Trust me, there has to be something you qualify for.

Hate to tell you guys....technology fees usually are for the usage of the colleges computers, software, and online classes. Believe it or not, online classes cost more than one with a "live" professor on site. The thought process is that "technology" costs more. You are also paying for the ability to have access to "paid databases" through your library for research, online email and blackboard access, and the ability to print (usually some limit) paperwork at school.
Hope you OP finds the money she needs....it's hard, I am in your boat right now! I feel your pain.

Please check with the school before you buy a computer. Sometimes you are required to lease a computer through the school. Ours does that for a total of about 3k. We were misinformed about this and some students bought computers and still had to lease the school's. So check and GET IT IN WRITING. Either official documents or with a signature.

Gee that seems like such a rip off. Just a way to squeeze more money out of the poor student.
