Please Explain??????

thanks in advance

hypermagnesemia is an electrolyte imbalance - there is an abnormally elevated level of mg in the blood, usually from excessive mg in the body..

Hypermagnesemia rarely happens because our kidneys are very effective in excreting extra magnesium that we might have. People with renal failure usually develop this because they are are given mg salts or take drugs that have magnesium (like some antacids or laxatives)

The other thing to keep in mind is that hypermagnesemia is almost never present in adults without another electrolyte disturbance (like hypercalcemia or hyperkalemia).

We see hypermagnesemia in neonates born to moms who were being treated with mag sulfate. These babies can be pretty hypotonic at times. They have slowed intestinal transit, so we keep them NPO and on IV fluids until the level comes down. At very high levels, you can see cardiac conduction abnormalities, but that's rare.

just to add to all that was said before "words say what they mean" (i.e) hyper (high){opposite of which is hypo} magnesium and emia (blood) you can always use this to break down your words. do forgive me if this was too much of a baby term:saint:.
