Platt?

Published

Apparently they got approved for national accreditation? So I am considering them. They are expensive...They have a high pass rate on the RN NCLEX, but other than that I don't know much about them. Anyone else know much about em? Anyone graduate there on the RN program?

When I was gathering information about the nursing (LPN) schools I was potentially interested in attending, I couldn't get any questions answered from them. A lot of dodging, which made me a little weary.

Hopefully they are better once you're actually enrolled. I wish you good luck! Let us know how it turns out.

Have a quick questions please...

Maybe I am not "catching" something here re Platt. How can you bridge LPN-RN in one year, if you don't have any pre-reqs? Or must you have the pre-reqs for admission?

Thanks...

For anyone considering going to the platt lpn to rn here is something you might want to consider. I am currently in their program in okc. I eventually want to go on to get my BSN and I contacted several colleges about their RN to BSN and was told that because i got my degree at platt I would still have to do their traditional program because they will not accept their degree because it is from a vo tech not a college. I am now going back to platt to officially disenroll from their classes. I have already signed up for classes again at occc to finish all of the pre reqs so that this fall I can hopefully start next fall at OCU Kramer School of Nursing. Good luck to anyone that is going to Platt. However, do not believe everything they tell you. Was told that they were accrediated by NLNAC and they arent because i went to the website and Platt's name is not on there much less a visit scheduled. They also told me that the degree would transfer knowing that i would be going on to get BSN and after contacting other colleges it doesn't. SNU states that they are thinking about it. No other college would even consider their degree. Frustrated beyond belief. Anywho if you are going to go to platt and they tell you anything get it in writing or do alot of research before you shell out that kind of money. Good luck to all.

well I thought I would give everyone an update. After much consideration and research and suggestions from this forum I have decided to disenroll from PLATT. I would have started 16th of APRIL . I didn't want to believe all the negative feed backs and I have heard some positive feedbacks about the school as well but the neg I feel were more accurate and honest and the tuition for PLATT is insane to say the least . I want to thank everyone for their input on this topic! take care

sugasocks why did you decide to disenroll? what did you find out in your research? just curious is all.

I just graduated from Platt/Tulsa with my LPN, and I am about to start the RN program. It is expenseve and very intense...but well worth it. I loved all my instructors and my clinical instructors were even better.

good luck!

Hello... Those who are discussing the Tulsa, OK area can also consider RSU, OU Tulsa, ORU, TCC and TU. RSU had a 97% pass right in 2006. That means out of 50 or so students only one person did not pass the first time, but she did the second time she took the test. I am a student at RSU and I love it. The tuition is very reasonable. If you are a RSU grad, hospitals want to hire you because we are highly respected. I have heard bad things about TCC. I haven't really talked to anyone about ORU, TU or OU Tulsa. I will say that ORU and TU are very expensive. Not sure about OU Tulsa. I am 100% satisfied with the instructors and overall education at RSU. I will graduate in May 2008. If you make it through their program, you're basically guaranteed to pass the NCLEX because the program is very challenging. The ADN program is 5 semesters which is awesome! Hope this helps someone. If you have any questions, message me. RSU also has a RN to BSN program. Bye!

What bad things have you heard about TCC?

Well, I've heard that once you're in the program the staff doesn't challenge you very much. A lot of the TCC students end up quitting or not getting enough grades. It may not be true, but that is what I've heard. At RSU, the faculty doesn't baby us but they are there to help guide you throughout nursing school which is awesome. Also, TCC's campus is in Tulsa. Their campuses are spread out over Tulsa. Sometimes you may have to go to two different places. At RSU, everything is on one nice college with architecture, ponds, grass, a beautiful library, etc...

I'm not a gossip queen. I just want people to know about RSU. I'm sure TCC has a good program and those that go there will be a good nurse. Still, RSU is highly rated in Oklahoma. Our state and national average are well above the norm...

I graduated from Platt/Lawton LPN program, Feb.13. It was a very intense learning environment. My instructors were FAB!!!!!!! I love each and everyone of them.I came from Germany and really didn't hear any neg things about them until I was enrolled. My personal experience with them has been nothing but wonderful. I agree that the price is very expensive... but it was so well worth it.... Clinicals were outstanding!!!!! I enjoyed every moment in school... From 8:30-3:30 monday - friday!!!!! It was a challenge that I completed. To all those that consider Platt I would advise you to do your research, and find out if the program that they offer is for you... Everyone experiences differences...,but what ever you decide best of luck!!!!:)

At TCC now, all students start their level one in the AWESOME new facility at SE campus - they have all the latest and greatest gadgets all paid for by Vision 2025. So you really either go to Metro ( the campus downtown) or SE ( 81st and 169). I have a bunch of friends in that program and they are indeed challenaged and not babied. They started this Spring with 80 students and by the end of the semester they were left with only 45 or so. Most of those students were dropped from the program for grades. One thing that I like is that when they are deciding what clinical location to place you in, they take into account where you live, which is nice and convenient.

I have heard great things about RSU - but heard that it is very difficult to get into the program. I know several students that went into their EMT program in the hopes that will then help them get into their nursing program.

I will starting the OU ABSN program next week and I will make that I post and let you know what I think about the program.

In deciding what nursing program to attend in Tulsa, there are so many factors to consider - cost, can I get into the program, length of time, degree that you walk away with ( BSN or associates), distance to drive ( I know for me personally RSU was too far away especially with gas prices), expense of the program, childcare availibility if that is a concern for you, etc, for some people the board pass rates are significant factor to consider.

To each his / her own eh?

well i was accepted and scheduled to attend platt in their february lpn program. it was almost too easy.....after doing some extensive research, i have decided not to go to platt. they are not accredited by the national league of nursing and that's a major downside. they are not even pending accredidation or scheduled for a visit. not to mention that the tuition is too costly. anyone who gets their lpn diploma from platt will certainly have a hard time getting into an rn program or going for their bsn. you will be hard pressed to find a college to accept you unless you graduated from an nln accredited school. anyone out there thinking of attending platt.......think again. you will have way more options if you graduate from an nln accredited school. good luck to all of you!!!:monkeydance:
