placed on unpaid adminstative leave today

Published

Today, i was placed on unpaid administrative leave. I have been a nurse for 31 yrs and have never had such a thing happen to me. I have been a hospice nure for the past 1 1/2 yrs. During my last calll weekend also known as the weekend from hell- i ****** off a family, so today I'm facing unemployment. the worst part about this is my daughter is getting married Sat. Sort of hard to smile and act like everything is wonderful. I have already applied on line for a staff nure postion at a hospital and hope that I will get hired. I can't imagine going back to work for my present employer. It seem as if the rules change every day and the staff is never given the benefit of the doubt. I have always been a well repsected nurse in my community and well liked by my co workers and Drs. I can't stop crying. :(

i decided to resign from my position today and get it over with. This way I don't have to have this own my mind during my daughters wedding. Packing up my stuff and getting rid of all of this has been cathritic. The more frineds I take to, thnings are always how management wants thinks to be protrayed.

also, please understand that this isn't "hospice", this is the rotten organization (that was lucky enough to have you as an employee! ) was this by any chance a large national for profit??

i have been loved and supported in a small christian based hospice and a non-profit hospital, and emotionally raped by a large for-profit occupational health chain who shall remain nameless[ unless someone asks!]

at any rate, go be happy with your daughter and your new job, wherever the universe takes you. the truest words ever spoken are "this, too, shall pass".:heartbeat

How did it go? I think you made the right decision, God Bless!

I am also sorry to hear it, and I agree with some of the posters...sometimes, we have to be forced to make decisions that we are not ready to do. We hang around, hoping things will get better, sometimes afraid to make THAT step. But, now, you can freely move on. Best wishes to you!

Hang in there, and good luck to you!

Wow, if I got reprimanded every time I ****** someone off...

About ten years ago I got put on administrative leave because I ****** off the wrong person - a nurse manager with a big chip on her shoulder. It hurt - it still hurts! I learned some painful lessons, but I walked away with my integrity intact, which is more than I can say for my adversary.

I'm very sorry to hear this, but if it makes you feel any better, I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for nurses with 20+ years of experience - even more for nurses with 30+ years of experience! You are one of the treasures of our profession!

it is 2 30 am and the wedding is this afternoon, so for everything has gone well. I had a great message on my phone when i got home. my best friend works at a hopstial in this area and just happened to run into the vice president of nsg and put a bug in her ear about me. she sounded very interested. so, im' hoping thnings will happen. everyone on this site has been wonderful. at this point i really just think of my self as lucky to have the suppot that I have recieved from froiends and co workers at my prior hosptial job. I better try to get some more sleep before the big day. thanks again for caring so much:typing

Hi, so glad to hear that things are turning out well for you!

I am so sorry. Ever hear that old chestnut, "Nurses eat their young"? It's not true. The sad truth is "Nursing destroys it's seasoned veterans". I'm watching bad and undeserved things happen to two excellent co-workers, both with 25+ years experience (primarily as bedside caregivers) and have decided I want to leave direct patient care. It is sad. It is depressing. It is also clear that none of us are safe out here anymore. And this is the reward we get for staying at the patient's bedside when so many others either bailed out of the profession altogether or built their careers on trying real hard to never touch a patient. So, after decades in the field, I want out. I don't want to take care of patients anymore because the risks to me personally have become too great. It won't be easy and I don't have any real original ideas about what to do instead, but I am about to embark on my new path. I wish you well and want you to understand that you are not alone.

I am happy to announce that I have a new job. I have accepted a position in a hospital doing 12 hrs days on a surgical step down unit. the nurse manager that interviewed me seemed very eager to have me as a staff member. I am looking forward to the new challenge. Thanks for all the support and kind words during this difficult period in my nsg career. :)
