Hi!

This board is SLOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooow on the Tucson side. Not many people here.

Welcome to Pima! I graduated from there, and am quite fond of the program.

Have you gone to your orientation yet?

Not yet. I'l be there on the 26th and I'm quite looking foward to it. How long ago did you graduate?

Also quick question for ya. I've heard a rumor that there is a huge percent that is failing the program. Is this common, a fluke or just misinformation?

It's not common at all! It's a fluke. The tests haven't changed, and plenty of semesters before them have made it through just fine.

You know, instead of contacting the news media about failing, these students should have been evaluating their study habits to see what they are doing wrong. (evaluating-part of the nursing process)

Nursing school is no walk in the park, and I'm kinda sick of students thinking that all the info should be handed to them on a silver platter. I mean, these are people's lives we are dealing with here!! It shouldn't be easy!

Sorry for the rant, but a bad group gets through, and complains, and they attack the integrity of the entire program in all of it's graduates. I'm not a fan of that.

That being said, I loved the program, graduated a little while ago, and still maintain contact with some of the teachers. I'd still highly recommend it to anybody! I think you'll love it too.

Hi Jumpy. I was accepted into the Pima spring '08 class. Then I found out I couldn't get financial aid through Pima because I have too many credits. I'm going BSN at a university in AZ, instead. Good luck - and honestly, I envy you. It's a wonderful opportunity and a wonderful program.

I will be starting at Pima this semester too...unfortunately I am just now starting my prereqs so it's gonna be a while before I can really start my ADN.

Hi Jumpy. I was accepted into the Pima spring '08 class. Then I found out I couldn't get financial aid through Pima because I have too many credits. So I made an alternate very happy. I'm going BSN at a university in AZ, instead. Good luck - and honestly, I envy you. It's a wonderful opportunity and a wonderful program. I still wish I were in the Pima nursing program, starting this month, at times.

Financial aid can be tricky, and I know plenty of people who have hit the same block. Sorry that this happened. Are you moving out of Tucson for this BSN program?

Hi everyone! I don't know what's up with the financial aid, but I was under the impression that you would be eligible "conditionally" in the nursing program. I have over 70 credits at Pima because many years ago I got an Associate's Degree but didn't know what I wanted to major in. When I decided to go back for nursing, I paid for some of the prereqs out of pocket because I was no longer eligible for FA on the community college level. However, if I was accepted into the nursing program at Pima, I would again be eligible for FA because my major had changed.

On a different note, do any of you know which hospitals/facilities offer clinical experiences? I ended up going to nursing school elsewhere, but I am from Tucson and was wondering how clinicals compare. Even with all the hospitals and facilities there, I read in the paper recently that Pima was having problems finding available sites and instructors? Where did you (or plan to) have your various clinical rotations?

Yeah I'm at west campus because they we're the only one who had the classes I needed. It's pretty far away though because I live RIGHT by TMC so hopefully next semester I can go to the downtown campus.

When I start my nursing program I will be going through TMC-U so my classes and my clinicals will be at TMC. I have a friend in at the U of A and right now his clinicals are also at TMC.

Do you mean, which hospitals have clinicals in them? All of them do.

Pima is having problems finding clinical instructors just like all the other schools in America.

The problem with placements, lies in the 3rd semester with the Peds rotation. We only have 2 hospitals with Peds units in town, so it's tricky getting all the nursing students rotated through.

Pima students don't get to pick where they go for clinicals. You get assigned your rotation and clinical instructor in the beginning of the semester.

That makes sense, that it is more a problem of available instructors than locations. Do you go to a variety of settings, or do your rotations tend to be in the same hospital. Is it by semester? We had 3 different rotations (with different instructors) per semester, but had limited sites for rotations. Basically, there were only 2 hospitals available.
