  1. I'm a tech. asst. in Nuclear Medicine and I'm also very slowly working on my prereqs...
  2. Actually I am trained as a doula (through DONA as well) already but the hospitals here don't use us as staff....
  3. What they earn can't be any worse then what I'm making right now hehe.... I'm just tired of nuclear medicine and coworkers who don't pull their own weight. I always knew I wanted to go into health care and I also always knew I wanted to be in L&D, but right now I'm mostly dealing with the grumpy elderly. I want to be interested in what I'm doing and radioactive isotopes really aren't my thing either. It's time for a change and I'm really hoping I can get into L&D or NICU. Unit clerk, tech, whatever I'll take it!
  4. I am in school right now working on my prereqs for nursing school... I work in nuclear medicine right now and I'm looking to transfer. I either want to be in L&D or NICU but I don't really know if what other postions there are.... I know there are unit clerks and I would be interested in that but are there any other positions you can think of in your L&D?
  5. I do know several nurses here who DO NOT hate it. They are not in L&D or NICU but they still love thier jobs. There are also a lot of nurses here who have been here for 15 or more years. I'm not sure what the point of me saying this is....I mean I'm not going to persuade you believe differently but I don't feel that TMC is the horrible place you believe it is and neither do many of the people I work with (nurses, radiologists, NP's ect, ect).
  6. Yes, TMC does have some issues but as far as I know the rumors you speak of are just rumors. We're not closing or anything crazy. There's just a lot of change going on right now which is inevitable right? I actually like my job there quite a bit and I know lots of other people who do as well... but there will always be people who hate it.
  7. Yeah I'm at west campus because they we're the only one who had the classes I needed. It's pretty far away though because I live RIGHT by TMC so hopefully next semester I can go to the downtown campus. When I start my nursing program I will be going through TMC-U so my classes and my clinicals will be at TMC. I have a friend in at the U of A and right now his clinicals are also at TMC.
  8. I hope this doesn't make me sound bad... I would probably just buy something justifiable (PDA, steth, scrubs whatever) and sell whatever it is on Ebay or craigslist. I mean if you really don't need it and money is that tight why not? Is that terrible?

This is something I have NEVER admitted to ANYONE but I feel like maybe you all will understand. My son was born sept. 22nd 2006 at 32 weeks with a very large omphalocele. He lived through 2 surgeries and 12 hours but it ended up that his lungs weren't good and the once he went on the oscillater he just crashed. At first I wondered why more wasn't done but now sometimes I am just relieved. I know he would have been in the NICU for months and months and I have to wonder if that would have been harder than losing him. Do you ever feel this was about your patients? Like okay yeah that one really didn't have a chance I'm glad it wasn't prolonged? I am just starting my prereqs this semester so I can be a nurse. As of right now I am feeling conflicted... I always thought L&D was for me but now I am starting to wonder about NICU. I think I may start in L&D and move on to NICU later. I completely admire you NICU nurses and what you do and I hope someday to be as awesome as you!
  10. I will be starting at Pima this semester too...unfortunately I am just now starting my prereqs so it's gonna be a while before I can really start my ADN.

yeah I'm only planning on getting my ADN from pima....I figure if I want my BSN later I can always go back for it.

actually when I was in HS I took concurrent enrollment of bio (just because I found it interesting)... so I am going to test right into A&P (I am positive I will pass because I find it so interesting I try to keep learning whatever I can). It really shouldn't take me any longer than a year to finish my prereqs but if it does it's not the end of the world. This is all pretty exciting and new and I just can't wait to start my nursing classes.... I'm just not to thrilled about having to do my prereqs first lol.

there is no wait so I get to go right in... as of right now I am just not sure how long my prereqs are going to take. It's looking like it may be a whole year because I honestly never thought I would go to school so I never took any classes.
  14. kitten_ replied to kitten_'s topic in Arizona Nursing
yeah, it is a 3 year commitment but in the big scheme of things I don't think thats a big deal.

I've been lurking around here for a while but I've finally decided to join. I am pretty sure I am going to be starting my prereqs in January (about time!). I really am only interested in L&D or NICU nursing but we'll see. I am going to be going through the TMC-U program because I work in Nuclear Medicine as a tech. asst. and this is really the only way I can afford school right now. I also don't mind giving them a few years for them giving me school. Do any of you know about this program of have you been through it?
