Pima Community College

I have been lurking around these forums for months, but I don't often see threads for Pima CC. Surprising since it has a big program there.

I'm still working on pre-reqs. I plan to do both A&Ps in the Spring semester. How good is the express class? Any advice?

They stressed to me that GPA did not come in to play with regards to the waiting list at Pima. And really, I didn't think my wait was any shorter than anyone else's and I had a 4.0. Note the word HAD, nursing school is hard! LOL

Anyways, I found the first semester of NS at Pima the hardest and we lost lots of people. I feel that they use the semester to weed people out, which I disagree with. But I'll spare you all my soapbox speech on that! ;)

Congrats on starting NS. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. I'm getting ready to graduate in December, yay!

Congratulations Wicked Wahine! :yeah:

I agree with you, when I was on the waiting list, it was first come, first serve. Grades didn't have anything to do with it. I don't agree with that; I think grades on your prereqs should come into play, but it's the way it was. I also had a 4.0 in my prereqs and it didn't make a bit of difference.

Oh grades have plenty to do with it-trust me. Just because you don't know behind the scenes doens't mean it's not happening. I've been close to lots of people at Pima for a long time...

This is completely off topic, but how long (or how many semesters) do you have to complete before you can apply for a student nurse position? I'd love to be an SN at UMC! And what are the normal responsibilities of a student nurse? Just curious and excited :-).

At least 2, but I think UMC likes their own students from the UofA.

Thanx for the reply... yeah, it makes since that they'd pull students from UofA. What are student nurses allowed to do? Are they basically CNAs? Thanx again.

I was an extern for SJH and I did assessments and charting mostly. Some tasks we could do but we couldn't do IVs or meds-which was a bummer!

But I worked on their 'tele' floor, and we had as many as 7 pts. So I really got good at assessments!

Does anyone that is in or graduated frothe Pima CC nursing program know of anyone that has transferred into the program from another nursing program?

Alright, I'm looking to take a support course along with A&P next semester. I figure it will be hard, so I should take a relatively easy support.

Has anyone taken Psychology at PCC? Online? They have a 8 week online course and I heard from one person that it was easy. Problem is that she didn't tell me who her teacher is.

Or... how about this: Rank difficulty of Nutrition, Child Development and Psych. That will help me plan since registration is next week! :uhoh3:

I took Psych online and enjoyed it. I'm currently taking my nutrition online. The only issue with online classes is you just have to be sure to keep up with the assignments and pace yourself. It's easy to get behind when you don't have a class to go to. I love the fact that Pima offers these classes because it really helps with my schedule. Next semester - human development. Online, of course.

I'm applying to the program next month. Anyone else?
