I have been lurking around these forums for months, but I don't often see threads for Pima CC. Surprising since it has a big program there.
I'm still working on pre-reqs. I plan to do both A&Ps in the Spring semester. How good is the express class? Any advice?

Star--it's not just that there aren't very many Pima students here, it's also that their aren't very many Tucson students here!
We had a popular thread on the A.BSN at the UofA, but now they are all studying and not posting very much, lol.
I'm fond of Pima for lots of reasons.
Now, are you taking the A&P at the downtown campus? That's my recommendation. Also, try your best for good grades. I can speak from experience when I say that if you have great grades you will have a shorter wait time.
Get you name on the waiting list as soon as your done with A&P. Things change a lot, but go to the Pima website and keep yourself updated with all the changes.

I just signed up at PCC. I'm taking chem 130 and bio 156 at northwest campus. I too am interested in taking the accelerated a&p in the spring. I'm a little nervous about getting into the nursing field, but i know i will like it!

Did A & P 202 at the northwest campus, had a bad experience. I had to teach myself everything....i came out with a high B though . CardiacRN is rite...the classes at the downtown campus are the best. I took the self paced 201 and got an A. Most of my friends who have taken it there have done exceptionally well also.
o..and i applied to the PCC program in may [[right after i finished her class]] and i was advised that i'll start August '09! Right now i'm in my second year of the RT program at Pima...as soon as i finish this, i'll start nursing! Exciting! Good luck with your classes.
Good to know. It's an equal drive to West, NW and Downtown for me. I took CHM 130 and I really like my teacher there. She was tough grader, but her lessons were clear. I loved her balloon demo with helium/oxygen/hydrogen. heh Oh, I got an A
I have a friend who is on the nursing track too. She said she would share her A&P notes with me since she doesn't need them anymore. That will be nice a semester ahead of time. I also plan to get one of those coloring books. My sister, who is a nurse, said it was a major help to her.
Sorry I won't see you for Bio. I signed up at the West campus.

I graduated from PCC in May and I agree with what CardiacRN2006 said. Get your prereqs done asap to get yourself on the waiting list. I've heard it's 3 years now. I had a pretty good experience at PCC though. I didn't take A & P accelerated, but I have heard alot of good things about the instructor of the accelerated A & P at East Campus, which is where I took all of my prereqs. Good luck!
yeah i heard its a 2- 3 year wait, but i applied in May and got accepted for january. weiird.

How hard did you think the program was? Did you do well? I'm very curious as i will be starting in january.
How was your GPA?

Wow, congrats that you got in so soon! Nursing school is alot different than other areas of study. It's a different way of thinking, and test questions are different than what I've seen before. There is alot of application of knowledge and building on previous knowledge. My advice is to keep your A & P stuff and go over it before school starts. I did pretty well, though not as well as I wanted to. Just study hard and find a study group when you start the program. I never found study groups beneficial until nursing school, but it really helps.
Thanx for the heads up, i hear they preach critical thinking! And to answer cardiac's question, my gpa is 3.7 right now. i also have all of the pre and most of the co reqs completed. Maybe that has something to do with it....
I've noticed very high GPAs seem to jump right up the waiting list. I didn't wait either...
Congrats! I love Pima and received a very good education.
