Pima CC smart phones

U.S.A. Arizona

Hi,

I will begin my Nursing Program Fall 2010 and am wondering if smart phones are allowed at clinical sites?

Thanks..

You aren't allowed to have your phone out at clinical...unless you are on lunch.

What type of resources do we use while at clinicals for drug information, etc...? I have read other messages talking about all the great appl. that are used with pda/smartphones. Any suggestions?

Very good question. Would an iTouch be allowed for the apps?

In the first semester, you have two clinical days a week. The first day is a preparation day where you get all of the information on your patient (diagnosis, meds, labs, etc.). After clinical you have to fill out a worksheet about all of this info, so you end up looking up all of the medications. You should review all of your meds with your clinical instructor/the nurse before giving them. Also there are normally drug guides at the nurses station.

...You aren't allowed to use your cell phone regardless of the applications it has. In each clinical rotation I've had, the instructor has reinforced this rule and points it out on the first day of clinical. Let me know if you have more questions :)

I mentioned the iTouch because it doesn't have a phone, it's basically a pda. So I guess I'm asking if a pda would be allowed?

O I'm sorry, I thought I read iphone. My mistake. It probably depends on your clinical instructor but the answer will most likely be no :/

You can always ask when you start clinical. Are you starting in the fall?

I was always allowed to have my Palm T/X out during clinical for looking up drugs/labs etc. I didn't go to PCC, though we had many of the same clinical sites. It probably depends on your clinical instructor.
