I've been looking to get my ears pierced for a while now. I decided to wait until the end of my first semester, to get a feel for how others may perceive a male nurse with pierced ears. I actually have clinical with a male nurse that has, you guessed it, pierced ears. It doesn't seem to be that big of a deal in my area.
What do you guys think? Would it be best to leave them un-pierced, or possibly try it out and just take them off if it becomes an issue?
You have 3 options:
1. Suck it up and follow the rules.
2. Choose a different school or workplace.
3. Fight the rule via the standard manners in place for such issues, but be prepared to go back to #1 or #2.
You don't have enough time in nursing school to wage trivial personal battles at the administration level. If you're transgender and want to wear a scrub dress, then that's probably a fight worth taking on. But if we're talking about a dude wanting to wear earrings for no other reason that he just wants to, then save that energy and get through school. Usually, workplaces have more relaxed policies.
It's only 2 years, man. It's ok to go with the flow.
I didn't see the dates, I apologize for dredging up an old thread. I can't figure out how to delete my comment.
The guys at my clinicals have to take theirs out so you might want to wait until you have a longer break so that taking them out doesn't cause problems for you. In general, for professional appearance, just don't. A lot of these clinical sites you go to may be potential future jobs so you might want to stack everything in your favor as much as possible.

I don't think it is just pierced ears....it's the spacers as a body mod I have seen facilities have issues with.
