Hi, I'd appreciate any information on this issue. I live halfway between Charlottesville and Fredericksburg, so I've applied to both Germanna CC and PVCC for fall admission '08. I prefer PVCC (I go there now for pre-nursing), but I feel there's a much better chance I'll get into Germanna because PVCC is being so strict about having completed Micro and A&P by the previous Fall Semester (I'm taking them both now). I know PVCC has a very good reputation but I really haven't heard much about Germanna's reputation. If it's worth the wait for one more year to get into PVCC, I'd love to know. My goal is to work at UVA once I receive my R.N. Anyone's opinion would be welcomed!

Well I don't know what info I can really give you- I am currently enrolled at PVCC. No other school really crossed my mind. I know they have a great Nursing program... I am currently taking pre-reqs.... Good Luck with whatever you decide. I live in Greene County- and I work on Pantops- so it's closer.... Again Good Luck with your future/ career!

Are they really that strict about finishing A&P & Micro before you apply?

There are two sources on the web where you can look for other impartial data on nursing programs. The State Board of Nursing lists the NCLEX passrates for all schools in Virginia at http://www.dhp.virginia.gov/nursing/nursing_edprogs.htm. The 2008 passrate for GCC is 80%, the passrate for PVCC is 90%.
You can also look at the accreditation status (both are accredited by the National League of Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC) http://www.nlnac.org/Forms/directorySearch.asp. PVCC has full accrediation; GCC has accredation "with conditions".

Does Piedmont CC offer evening program or part time programs?
Yes, Piedmont offers an evening program but there are very few slots alloted to evening vs. daytime, and it's tough to get in. I just got accepted into the day program. Hang in there and good luck!
