Hi Guys,
I'm thinking about doing paediatric nursing and more specifically paeds crit care nursing within Aus. I have been working for a few years ed/renal/gen med but thought paeds crit care would be a great career choice. I'm a bloke and was wondering if anyone has worked with guys in paeds and how you think they go at it? I'm obviously youst to working in a predominantly female profession but I was just wondering what everyone's thought of paed crit care and in particular blokes in paeds crit care are? I will have to make a decision soon as to whether to lean towards paeds and would like to know what other nurses like/dislike about paeds and in particular crit care in particular. Also if anyone has done the post grad diploma in paed crit care, how did they find it? Cheers

I just have to ask... does "youst" mean "used"? That's terrible!!!
I have not worked paeds critical care, I did adult. But I have some friends who did paeds who are guys. They had no particular problems that I'm aware of.

I'm aspiring to work in paeds. At the moment I'm a student and working as an AIN in a paedatric hospice and a long term care hospital for profoundly disabled children. Interestingly there are quite a number of men working with me in paeds, though of course not as many as the women! Personally, I don't see any difference between being a man and a woman in nursing these days - but then again I'm fairly broad minded
thanks for the advice ghilbert, i guess its aussie slang, or gen y slang, i'm not sure, i was on nightshift when i wrote that msg. cheers for the advice
Not aussie slang that I'm aware of. Must be a youngster thing. Good lord, does that make me old? Heh
