aus rn looking at working in alberta, canada
Hi everyone, Would love to have some advice about the possibilty of working as an rn in alberta. I'm planning on travelling to canada in 2010 in may-june for the start of summer for 12 months and am trying to figure out whether it's worth going through the regisration process to work as an RN. My current experience is 2 1/2 years since I gradauted. Have had experience in ed,renal, gen med, resp, cardiac, ortho but no exp as such in paed and obstetrics both of which I have no interest in working whilst in canada. I would like to know what u guys think in terms of whether i'l need to do any further work/study to satisfy alberta selection process or will I just need to sit the CRNE exam and pass it. This registering process is very different to what I'm used to so excuse my ignorance with some of the fine points. Thanks for your help. Mick

Grad programs in Melbourne
Hi Guys, I did my grad program last year at st v's and thought it was great. Good support system, a well run hospital, cool staff all easy to talk to, good education in grad year. The rotations i did were what i really wanted renal/stroke/endo and e.d. if successful u usually get one of your top picks for a clinical rotation so try to do well in the interviews to get the rotations you want. St v's is easily accessible and close to brunswick st which is good for going out. I dont know what else to say but if you have any questions about grad year/st v's ect just ask, im happy to help. Best Melbourne Grad Program?
Gday Claire, I did my grad year last year at st v's and found it great. I only realise now having moved on to other hospitals how well run st v's is, although i am working in wa and it's a bit backwards here. The rotations are great, i got renal and ed, loved ed, the educators down there are fantastic aswell as the staff. In regards to v's RMH, I would say that if u like trauma then rmh would be the place to be cos its one of only 3 trauma recieving hospitals in victoria (the others being alfred and royal childrens). Personally i'd give the alfred a miss cos its one 12 month rotation and if u miss out on the rotation u want and score rehab your screwed!ha, unless u like rehab that is. I think st v's is a great place to start nursing, the educators are great, orientation program is thorough and the doctors and other staff are all cool. Plus st v's is right next to brunswick st, good for a few beers after work. Good luck with it. Mick

PICU/paeds nursing aus
Hi Guys, I'm thinking about doing paediatric nursing and more specifically paeds crit care nursing within Aus. I have been working for a few years ed/renal/gen med but thought paeds crit care would be a great career choice. I'm a bloke and was wondering if anyone has worked with guys in paeds and how you think they go at it? I'm obviously youst to working in a predominantly female profession but I was just wondering what everyone's thought of paed crit care and in particular blokes in paeds crit care are? I will have to make a decision soon as to whether to lean towards paeds and would like to know what other nurses like/dislike about paeds and in particular crit care in particular. Also if anyone has done the post grad diploma in paed crit care, how did they find it? Cheers

Future grad
hey everyone, new to this site, seems really helpful. I was wondering if i could ask a few questions and see if anyone else here can help me out. Number 1 has anyone worked at St V's in melb, if so what did they they think of it, especially as grad yr oppurtunity. Second, does anyone know what the process is for completing paramedics once a qualified rn1? how many years postgrad experience is needed, thanks guys
