PICU- Cornell interview

Hi! I am going to be a new graduate nurse as well and am interested in a job at NYP cornell as well. How did your interview go? Did you have an initial phone screening and career battery? If so, any advice?

Hi,

I applied online, and sent a copy of my cover letter and resume to HR to try to stand out a bit (who knows if that worked, or it was just thrown out...) I got a call from HR that I would be receiving an email to take the career battery, then I got another call to set up a phone interview which was very short. This was only general questions (Why NYP, why nursing). I got a call at the end of March saying that they wanted me to come for an interview with HR in April. It was mostly behavioral questions like tell me about a time when you had to change the way you were going about something with a patient. or tell me about a time you had a very difficult patient, and what you did. They also asked some general questions like why NYP, why (the specific unit)... After my interview there I met with the unit manager, and a nurse educator. I think it went well, I got a call back saying they want to extend an offer, but I am hesitant to be excited without a offer in writing. (see post: I want to curl up in a ball and cry)

To answer your other question, I do have strong recommendations. This usually doesn't matter until the interview, and after though. I also have had two jobs as a tech, which I think helped me also.

Have you been given an offer in writing yet? Perhaps you can request it from HR? Congrats though and good luck! I recently had a phone interview with someone from NYP Cornell and I don't think it went well at all, I was a nervous wreck and the phone interview itself only lasted maybe 5 - 6 minutes. Hopefully I will hear back soon.

Hi,No I haven't been. I am going to give them a little more time. It takes a while to get everything done the reference checking background check ext. I'm trying to be patient, but I'm jumping out of my shoes. My phone interview was also very short. It felt like 2 minutes. I had so much prepared and I didn't use any of it. I wouldn't worry too much about it for now. It took me a long time to get a call after the phone interview, but hopefully since may is approaching you will get a call soon. What area do you want to go into?

I had applied for an emergency position, so we will see how that goes. I heard that it is very competitive so I'm trying not to get my hopes up. Also, if it has been over two weeks since the interview, it wouldn't hurt to just call to see how things are going!

It will be two weeks this comming week. I did call at the end of last week, they said they are still waiting to hear back from my references. Thanks for the advice.

Do you know if they call your current managers as well? I did not put my manager as a reference because she doesn't really know me as well as some of the floor nurses that I've worked with. I feel as if she wouldn't have anything super exciting to say. Do you know if your current manager was contacted?

I feel the same way. I worked 3-11 for a long time so my manager didn't really get to see my work. But unfortunately I know that they did call her. I just hope they don't read into anything she has to say. All of my other references are really good. I'll let you know how it works out.

I actually have an interview next week at NYP WC.They are requiring that I bring a million documents and pages of references, previous addresses, and employment history from the past ten years of my life, recommendation letters, transcripts, etc. How did you prepare for your interview? I was told that I am meeting with a recruitment coordinator, senior recruiter, and other staff in the department I am interviewing in. How did your interview go with the recruiters? What questions did they ask? Apparently my interview is 9 AM - 5 PM. I'm a nervous wreck! Sorry for all the questions!

Also - when they ask for three professional references, two of mine are clinical instructors. These would be considered references correct?
