Physican and nurses relationships

Nursing Students Student Assist

Published

I am interested in writing a research paper during my third year of nursing school about the nurse and physician relationship. I need to gather data from semester to semester to formulate a timeline.

Would you guys mind doing this quick 10 question only survey. It takes 30 seconds. I would very much appreciate it. Feel free to share with any other nursing students or people who are interested in working in healthcare.

your biases are showing in the way you pose the questions, and the ones you ask. i don't know what you mean by "timeline," either. suggest you add "none of the above" or "sometimes" or an option for short answers to increase the validity of your data. i'd never accept a paper from a student based on what i see here.

some physicians are jerks. some, many, aren't and know more about nursing than you do :D. sometimes nursing has "the final say," and sometimes it doesn't. the physician is no longer the "captain of the ship" with final authority over every aspect of patient care.

Most of the questions you asked were not ones that could be answered yes or no.Your bias shows in the questions you asked. I don't think that using the answers to this survey could be considered "research".You asked if the final decision in a patient's care should lie with the doctor after the nurses input. I would answer no, not because I think the MD should have the final say but rather the patient.

You should have asked questions about how doctors generally treat doctors in our experience.Generally the doctors I work with are just fine. Most of them are pleasant, respectful and treat us with civility.I have never been yelled at or sworn at by a doctor.Occasionally some of them will be a little abrupt but that is the worst I have seen.

Now wait. I don't at all believe she is showing a bias.

She is trying to get at what might have contributed to your perceptions. I think it's more about when/what has been put in your head as far as how you should view your relationships with physicians.

Maybe, eg are some nurses "brought up" to be wary of physicians?

There was no opportunity in the survey to express having good relationships with doctors. There was an assumption that our interactions were all negative,

I can't disclose the reasons for some of the questions that were raised, nor can I address the structure. I will at a later point. I am not going to address anyone individually either. I will however say that the angle from which this will come will surprise everyone. There is a reason it has been structured in such a way. And a reason certain questions were excluded.

Thank you for all of the participants- and those who will still participate. The data is already showing very interesting results.
