I you have specialised in the much needed areas, such as ED, theatre-these nurses are snapped up, and icu, you have much more chance of gaining a sponsorship.

If general med/surg.....not sure.....plenty of locals with these quals and experience.

I see. Thanks much ceridwyn. I have been working as an ED nurse for 3.5 years now. I am just hoping that the demand will still be present by the time we will get there. Still much worried though considering the costs and sacrifices to be made along the way.

I guess I'll just have to pray as well as wait and see what will happen.

I just passed my requirements for AHPRA registration.

I know a lot of nurses are on the same boat with me. WE are just hoping for the best things out of the current situation.

hello forumers. i'm also actually planning to get assitance from PhilMan (and with their associated financing agency) as I don't have enough funds to support my future studies in Australia. Is there anyone here who's currently tied up with the agency and the financing firm who can enlighten me up with their conditions? From the start up to the very recent post in this thread, I noticed that no one has really explained how things will work once one will avail of the "package" being offered by PhilMan.. Yes, because ahpra requires 2yrs experience.

My sister underwent the bridging program in aus under philman and loaned money from AG finance last january. Loaned money was more or less 1M pesos and the interest was almost the same amount thus the amount to pay was doubled. Lawyers from aus were actually mocking at them because the interest was so high and were wondering why they took that offer. They are having a hard time finding work since they still have to wait for their transcript and license to be released (around 1 month for the licensing) while their student visa will expire soon (3 months for the bridging program and 1 month extension). Upon asking help from philman they were told that they ARE NO LONGER EXPECTED TO GO BACK IN THE PHILS. They were abandoned. They have to either enroll in a short course (hence more money to shell out) for extension of student visa or apply for tourist visa (both will entail shelling out money again). AG doesnt want to lend money anymore and so they have to get the funds on their own. By june, they should pay the first installment of their loan in AG (100k plus) so they couldnt afford to be jobless by that time.

Philman's work is done after they sent you to australia, you will no longer be their responsibility once you stepped out of the phils. So if i were you, think twice before you apply with this company.

How sad for our fellow nurses and Filipinos to be exploited like that for business gains. Were they asked for any collateral, I mean how were they loaned with such huge amounts? It's hard to pass judgment when you know one is so hopeful and desperate at the same time that any help, ludicrous as it may be, becomes a source of relief and optimism. I hope that our fellow nurses may be able to find agencies and consultants who do not cause them great burden and who will be sincere in bringing them to a better welfare.
