The OQN is part of the Assessment Procedure, unless you have overseas experience from UK you cant get a license without passing the bridging course.
http://www.nursing.aust.edu.au/OQN/
During the program the overseas qualified nurse and midwife is oriented to the Australian Health Care System and the role of the registered nurse, enrolled nurse and midwife (as applicable).
The participant enters the program with an assumed level of knowledge and skill.
As such, participants are not ‘taught’ nursing/midwifery; they are oriented to the standards of practice in Australia.
Thanks narsbing.Whew! they say the bridging course is quite expensive. What is the average length of time that course would run?

1 How much does a bridge course cost
2 How long does it take
3 What should one do BEFORE the bridge course - in terms of preperation to ensure that one passes?
4 Which are the institutes which conduct a bridge course?

Hi kujiE! We're tracking the same path. I am a two-year registered nurse here in the Phil. I already have CGFNS certificate and passed also NCLEX. My application in the US is on going but I got also interested to work in AU.
The first thing you must do is to look at certain state in AU where you want to be registered then browse their website and download their forms and submit all the necessary requirements for the assessment.
As of this moment until the first week of February, Im just waiting for the result of the assessment in Sydney...Unfortunately Im expecting that they would require me to undergo the bridge program which is really quite expensive.. So Im having a second thought of going to other country instead just to save money for that bridge program. As far as I know, the bridge program will cost for about less than a hundred thousand pesos. Plus you will take the program in AU, so it would be an advantage for you if you do have relatives there for easy accomodation.
Good luck for both of us!

Please refer to the red banner that is at the top of each of the sub-forums. It requests that if your post has to do with licensing and/or immigration issues that it be placed under the International Forum. We are trying to keep the sub-forums for issues specific to working in nursing in that country and issues relate to same.
Please be aware than many of the local nurses are not aware of the requirements as far as licensing and immigration for the foreign nurse.
Thread has been moved to the International Forum.

hi!
I would like to ask if the Occupational English Test is required there? I'm planning to have my student visa to Aussie, study OET (that is if its really required) then once pass, take bridging course.
Taking OET will take tons of money follweed by the bridging course that's why im looking for any options not to take the OET there instead taking IELTS here then once pass, take the bridging course "alone" in Aussie while in student visa. Much Thanks!
