Philippine RNs in CA

World Registration

Hey guys anybody here in CA (NoCal /SoCal) who got their BSN in the Philippines and trying their luck to get BON eligibility for NCLEX-RN? I had all my documents forwarded to CA BON and paid the fees and cant help being so anxious waiting for the results of the evaluation especially with the concurrency issues. Im taking my time to study but gets so distracted when I think about the concurrency issues. Keeping a positive attitude here though...

hi RovzIniego, have you heard from the BRN yet? I was also a RN in the Phils and taking chance here in california.

Hi MORasks ,I am still waiting for the result of their assessment to my credentials. No goodnews yet, I am hoping it will be soon though. How about you? Did you start processing yours to BRN? Which school and year did you graduate?

CABRN has been rejecting retake applications due to the concurrency issue lately

You're right!I sent in my application in person -June 23 and i got a response from them saying i need to get my school send them the following:

1. Complete record of clinical cases

2. Academic calendar

which has to be from the school to the BRN.The thing is that the school doesn't have a copy of my clinical cases, it's only the academic calendar they can provide.

This is where most get declined by the CA BRN, either the applicant can't provide the cases records or their school simply stopped keeping them after so many years. For those that do provide them, it is also where most failed to meet the concurrency rules and thus, a declined application.

There's a poster or two who were offered a CA job and via the endorsement process, but also got caught up in the situation of not able to provide the CA BRN with the required documentation, needless to say, the job went to others able to fulfill the spot.

There was even a Phils nurse who actually was working in CA only to be asked to return the license back or face action against her. Here's her plight, click here: https://allnurses.com/california-nursing/incompetency-california-board-922870.html

Your other option is to try the LVN-RN route or simply have to realize that you'll be not working and living in CA but rather some other out of state location. Like the others above, endorsing back means having to still the same minimum CA BRN requirements.

Don't forget that CA BRN gives you only 3 years from the initial date of your application to complete your file or it will be considered "abandoned". Not only do you lose the non refundable application fees, but you'll have to re-start the ENTIRE application as a "first-time" applicant with new non-refundable fees, new set of school transcripts and met with whatever new rules that may come up at the time of application.

With the already high unemployment rate of CA new grads and little to no demand for foreign nurses in CA (or in most states), CA BRN doesn't have to adjust for the lack of demand for nurses in today's job market.

Well said steppybay! Been reading your posts and helped me a lot on my research to my applications.

I am not surprised about BON's response to my application coz it happened to some of the people i know too. Some of my friends can't provide the copy of the clinical duties they performed and decided to change her career :( And the my other friend have a copy of her clinical cases, dates and all, but is lacking instructor's signatures on all pages because she made a copy of it before she had the instructors signed them. It wasn't her fault, i mean nobody knows that she'll need it after some years of graduating.

My husband is working here in Nocal so I'll take my chances in getting licensed here. Sure it'll take time before I meet their requirements but while I'm in the process of doing that I think I'll take the LVN route.

Would you know how long they process LVN applications? Or average number of months from start of application to having an ATT?

Any response RovzIniego from the BON yet re:your application?

Hello fellow nurses... Im in the same situation too..im an rn in the philippines living here in norcal..i been looking for the instructions on how to apply licensure as lvn... Hi RovzIniego, I got a denial letter March 25th. I graduated at a School in Baguio, graduated 2011. The BRN required me 2 subjects Med-Surg 2 and Ob. My reviewer said on the letter that I may apply for LVN. I applied and got LVN ATT(did not take the exam yet) at the same time I looked for schools to accommodate my deficiencies. A school called me since then so I am grabbing my opportunity to take this classes. Hoping I pass the the TEAS test and transition class so I can take MS and OB.

Hi the climb, My application started from calling BVNPT (916) 263-7800. I asked all the questions I can come up with. From which application should I personally send to which forms my schools should send.

then I contacted a family member in the Philippines to personally be in charge of my papers there. Then I downloaded the application form and the requirements sent it by mail with a payment check. BVNPT will send you a letter then asking you to send the letter to your school (I sent mine to my sister and she took it to my school and asked for the e-mail address for the coordinator who will process my documents) I kept in contact with my school, which made it easy because they responded to my emails. As instructed the school should put all documents in a sealed envelope then it was picked up by my sister and sent it to BVNPT. After 3 weeks I got a letter from BVNPT explaining that I am deficient in Pharmacology hours but as I remembered I had hours more than what was required. So I called my school to re-evaluate my hours and BVNPT asked for a letter from my school saying that I have completed my hours. After the final evaluation, I received an approval letter. e-mail me at [email protected] if you want :-)
