Phi Theta Kappa... is it worth the $55 bucks?

I've been invited to join Phi Theta Kappa at my school. I'd honestly never heard of it until I got the letter. I understand it is the community college version of Phi Beta Kappa, the honors organization.

I have to admit the $55 sign up fee seems a little steep on my poor student budget.

Does anyone have any positive experiences with this organization outside of getting to wear the honor cord at graduation? Will it help me get a job etc?

Thanks for any info.

I first receive an application to be place on the National Dean's List. Then the invitation to join PKA. I spoke to my Dad who in his day was an advisor. He said that if you have money to burn do it. But it is all about making the student feel good. I later spoke to one of my nursing instructors who said "Anyone in Nursing school is an honor student because of the different grading scale that Nursing Students are held to."
