Hello all,
I'm applying for the Fall of 09 PHCC nursing program. I have a 3.923 gpa and still need to take the NET.
Will anyone from the spring let us know what there NET score was and how long you have been waitng to get into the program. When do we submit our applications? I have not been able to get an appointment with a counselor.
thanks in advance,
riverratt
Hey Kee-I'm not an alternate, but I did reject my acceptance to the eve/weekend program. I decided to go with the day program since it was more accommodating to my work schedule. On the LPN letters it said we had to confirm our acceptance by July 27th. (It actually had two contradicting dates on it: one said the 27th, the other the 23rd). So I would imagine that if PHCC hasn't already notified any alternates, they would notify them on or after that date (the 27th).
Probably not what you wanted to hear.. but at least its something?
Thanks for the info. It does help so now I won't worry until after the 27th. The waiting is torture. I wish I knew where I stood on the list but that will never happen.
I am also an alternate for the LPN day program. I have not been notified yet and I called to see what number alternate I was, but they wouldn't tell me. One of my friends was an alternate for the RN program and she wasn't notified until the last minute.
Isn't it frustrating that they won't tell you anything? They wouldn't even tell me how many alternates. I was curious what your NET score was, if you don't mind.
Ashley2196, hopefully you will move up a notch on the day program alternate list because I accepted the evening program and was an alternate for the day program as well but I won't be able to attend the day. Also, the package we received yesterday from PHCC was a bit overwhelming with vaccines needed, physicals, amount needed for classes, books, uniforms, and everything else and they really want to see all the documentation and proof that you can pay if possible before the August 4th orientation or we may forfeit our seats. It may scare some nursing students who were on the fence about going to school. It was definitely a reality check on how difficult this course will be.
Yes it is very frustrating. Just when you think the wait is over, we are chosen as an alternate and we have to wait even longer. My NET score was 100 math 70 reading 85 composite. What was yours?
Ashley 2196,
My Net was 97 math and 69 reading with an 83 composite and I wasn't selected as an alternative for the day program only the evening. Out of curiousity, if you don't mind, are you a resident of Pasco or Hernando? This is actually frustating to know I was so close to an alternate position for the day program (which is wat I really wanted). Wouldn't it be nice if they would provide us w/ the requirements of things that needed to be done by the start of class so we could at least prepare, especially financially?

3girlsmom,
Do you mind telling me what was the financial quote?
4940.34 including books and lab fees plus $500+ for uniforms, cap shoes, lab coat, name pins, patches, supplies.
my net scores were 97 math, 70 reading, 85 written expression and I was only chosen for evening and an alternate for day. I am a Pasco Resident. I found out (too late) in this package that there are sponsorship programs at hospitals in the area but Coomunity hosp of NPR is filled (she said you have to call as soon as you get the acceptance letter...nice to know a little late) and Oak Hill now only does sponsorships for RN or Bridge to RN programs, and Springhill and Brooksville regional only offers it for RN program.
Does anyone have any idea on what type of shoe to buy as far as comfort. I know all white but what about comfort.thanks in advance,
RR
I've done a lot of checking on this subject and have tried on a pair of the Dove Nurse Mates shoes at the PHCC bookstore...I thought they were very light weight, but didn't have any confidence they'd provide me enough support. I'm not sure how to analyize the fact that this brand/model is the only one the bookstore keeps in stock? I went online and compared prices to Nurse Mates, Medical Crocs, Dansko, and some others. I found that Shoeline.com is the best for prices, they accept coupon/discount codes, offers free ground shipping, and you don't pay sales tax. The Doves were less money here than PHCC when the 20% off Nurse Mates coupon (min purchase required) was added, and I got free s/h, and no tax.
I bought two pairs of Nurse Mates. To be honest, it's because I got the catalog from the bookstore and was able to look at all of them at one sitting. Keep in mind the bookstore can order any style for you from the catalog (at least that's what the cashier said). Anyway, I've since received the two pairs of shoes. I have a wide foot, I'm overweight, and flat-footed. So, I purchased the wide-widths, but when I tried both pairs on, they were too big. They seemed comfortable, moreso than the Dove I tried on. I wore them around the house for a day with a thin sock and they were excellent on the traction, pretty comfortable, and not as ugly as the Dove. I'm going to try wearing them inside with a thicker pair of socks. If you need, I can report back.
I also bought a pair of support knee-highs and tights. Wow, those make the difference! When I was just shy of Shoeline.com's min purchase amount to get 20% off of Nurse Mates, I put these in the shopping cart. Best thing I could have done. For the coupons, just Google search Nurse Mates discount/coupon or nurse shoe coupons.
Hope this helps and good luck!

$4940.34?? plus $500+? wow, not the number I was expecting to hear.. glad you told us now, otherwise I would've passed out when i read it. I'm assuming they don't expect us to pay that upfront? that would be insane..
I was an alternate for the RN program last spring, so I know how the waiting can be. I think they don't tell you what number you are on the alternate list because it's continuously changing. With all the random letters they have to go through, they probably really don't know...?

rfbloveee- I know you've already started in the PHCC LPN program.. any words of advice you can provide for our first semester? What classes did you take and where did you complete clinicals?
I am getting so antsy.. I've been reading the LPN forum religiously, and I just want to start classes already!
