Hi all :)
I decided to start a new thread since the last one has something like 275 comments. It's a tad overwhelming!
Any questions, concerns, comments, etc regarding Pasco-Hernando Community College's programs? This is your thread:nurse:
We have decided on a meeting time and place. Here are the details:
When: Saturday evening, July 17, 7pm til whenever.
Where: Brass Tap in Wiregrass
Why: Faces to usernames :) lol--Seriously, won't it be great to meet the people who have been stressing out with us for the past several months?
If you have questions about the plan, feel free to pm me :) Also, if anyone has any brilliant ideas on how to recognize one another, feel free to share!

RN-to-be...
amanda, lol it's not weird! i've only been there maybe 3 or 4 times.
i know what scrapworking, mj, and flbrowneyedgirl look like thanks to facebook. but if you all want, i'll draw a ginormous hot pink y on my forehead with lipstick.
i can call brass tap tomorrow and see about arrangements for seating too and maybe that way people can just say at the door i'm here for the phcc group and be pointed in the right direction. never been to brass tap so not sure how it is.
so if we can tally who's going that would be great. judging from posts so far it looks like 12? my friend leighann and her friend who is a male (isiah, so maybe you won't be alone ) got in for rn as well. also i'll text becky if she wants to go too and there is a lady named jackie in my microbiology class but i don't have her number. two other guys, bill and brandon got in for rn too but no way of contacting either of them unless any of you know them?
I solemnly swear that I am NOT a barfly...but I am pretty familiar with Wiregrass at night (hangs head in shame for a brief moment...& perks back up!!) due to trying to build up a social life whilst dealing with divorce, only to tear down said burgeoning social life by going to NURSING SCHOOL!
BT may or may not be busy at 7--they may or may not let us have the area just to the side of the tiny little area where "live music guy" sings, but that table would accommodate a larger group. BT is very small, serves beer & wine, no food. Prime Bar, just across the way, is much larger (more expensive) and they have food. Cantina Laredo has the BEST mango margaritas on earth (and I want one...or two...as soon as possible..which means 4 hours ago) and great food but also, it's pretty expensive.
I guess my point is that we have options Did this make sense?? lol

FYI guys...Pasco health Dept. with clinic locations charges $33 for MMR titers and are back WITHIN 48 HOURS. Varicella titers are $22.78 and TB Skin Tests are $20. Physicals are $63 (WAYYYY to much) so go to any "Doctor's Walk-in" where they are $20. They only take cash and I'd recommend going in the mornings when they aren't busy. These prices may even be less than any deductible or copay if you have insurance.
Seriously? Which clinic did you go to? I am debating if I should go with the titers or the immunizations. You guys should give me some honest feedback.... I was processed into the Army back in 2006 and received a SHITLOAD of immunizations. Unfortunately, because they haven't been within the past three years, I can't use them as proof for the program. Should I go with the titers? Or just go ahead and get the immunizations? I HAVE to get this **** scheduled and done, because now that I am working full time nights at St Joe's...I swear all I do is sleep, clean, work, and stress that I am forgetting something lol. Things should get much better after I am done training, but that won't be until the end of next week and I need to get this stuff done and out of the way.
The Pasco County Health Department down in Land O' Lakes quoted me at 63 for the MMR imm and 93 (!) for the Varicella...which they weren't even sure they had the adult in stock. Ay ay ay. I seriously don't have the money for this crap until the 29th when I get my first paycheck, so hopefully my parents will take pity on me and help me until I can pay them back.
I don't want to waste my time and money getting the titers, only to find out that I need the immunization. Give me some feedback. I am in a rut. I will definitely get my physical done at the walk in clinic though....they said they could do that and the PPD for 50, which seemed reasonable enough.
Also, more questions....which should I get done first? The titers/immunizations so that I can bring it in when I get my physical done? I obviously don't have health insurance, so it has been a LONG time since I have had to deal with paperwork and doctors...I don't really count the military since their healthcare sucked anyway
Oh, and I just got off the phone with the CPR people and they are like a different part away from Oak Hill. He said the class is the 22nd but they are overbooked I am put on a cancellation list to get into the class and he said the likelihood of getting me in is pretty decent. Let's hope I can!!
Evansmum...get the titers done since your shots were so recent. The prices the health dept. gave you were for vaccines...which you surely don't need. Get the titers...they're much cheaper ($55.78 'out-the-door') for the MMRV and $20 for TB skin test. That's the location I went to as well. $50 for TB is "reasonable," but health dept. is cheaper and you can do it when you're there for titers. For anyone being assigned to East Campus, or if you just want to add me on Facebook, PM your name and I'll look you (or you can look me up). See everyone Saturday!
You may want to check your info packets on the CPR class and/or verify with the school that they'll take it. If I recall, they were very specific about what they are accepting.
I doubt I'll be able to meet up Saturday night - I'll be on the Rainbow River tubing all day - trying to fit in as much social life as I can between semesters and before NS starts (and everything else gets put on hold!). I'm all for getting together again though!
I'm on facebook as Jenn mentioned...
