Pharmacology tips..

Published

Does anyone have any tips for studying pharmacology? I am taking exam next month for 2nd time and have been out of school since Dec 2004. Took a Kaplan course in Oct 2005 but haven't taken the test since then. My first try was June 2005. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Write up all the classes- antibiotics, antidepressants, NSAIDS, etc. Then write the major side effects and contraindications, whether or not to take with food, etc. Study that first. Then plug in your individual drugs to each category. That way, you will only have to recall what group a drug belongs to, b/c you'll know what you need.

Kaplan has some excellent video on their online course on drugs and categories.

This site http://www.fla-ortho.com/frames/library/food_drug/b_interaction.php3 has the meds broken down differently than anything else I've seen and I thought it was very helpful...almost every drug question I had on NCLEX was when to give it or with/avoid which foods.

Thanks everyone for all the tips!
