Does anyone know of a pharm learning tool that they found especially helpful (like flashcards or something similar)? Im in NP school and trying to find something that will break down the information better than just a plain pharm textbook. Thanks!

If you are a new nurse, flashcards are fine. However, for APNs, I would never ever rely on my memory. In my practice I use about 50 drugs consistently mostly antibiotics, hypertension meds, etc.. I KNOW these meds and doseages. However, if I want to prescribe something I'm not familiar with, I look it up.
For advanced pharm, I never needed to memorize meds. Perhaps you can clarify what you are wanting?

If you really want to spend some money, Margaret Fitzgerald CDs are great and can be used as review for certification. The web site says they're DVDs but they are actually audio cds.

I am in nurse practitioner clinicals and I want to be more familiar with the types of medications and what class they are in. I believe in practice, I would always look them up, but in clinical I just want to know what the practitioners are talking about quickly, without having to stop and look up the med. I work in labor and delivery now as an RN and we only use a few medications. I know those well, but the others havent really seen since undergrad nursing school. :)
Got it - thanks for the clarification.

Would adding a pharm app on your smartphone help? I personally will have a hard time fumbling through flash cards while in clinicals.

I find it really quick to look up meds on my phone with epocrates. I use the free version for Android.

Medscape has a great smartphone app that has a drug data base too. It covers uses, dosage, classification, pharmacology, contraindications etc. Plus it's free.

Hi Katiebug - I'm right there with you! Studying pharm now and looking for tools to help me memorize what I need for tests...can use book/notes etc., but still need to have the info down pat for tests, not enough time to look things up.
I know we will be able to use electronic pharm guides for clinicals and in the field post-graduation, but I need to find a way to really commit this stuff to memory now!!
I'm looking for any helpful tips for getting through this class as well!
