PFAPA

Had never heard of PFAPA (periodic fever sydrome) before, but now I have two with it. One never really has many flares per mom- so missing school shouldn't be an issue. The other student is a new KGer and mom says he will miss 3-4 days a month due to this "probably."

Does anyone have a student with this who is on a 504?

Great, Thank you so much- I will check that out.

I have 1 student diagnosed with it - we did not do a 504. We did have a plan of care & I had documentation from the doctors office of diagnosis - if the student came down with a fever at school, I would call the parent & let her know the symptoms - parent made the decision whether to pick student up or if I was just to administer Motrin, allow to rest for a bit and send her back to class - most of the time it was just administer motrin and send her back to class. If I sent her home it was because she had other symptoms - sore throat, cough etc.

This. We had one last year. No 504 but I asked for and received an MD order that had me monitor, give PRN meds, and that the child could stay in school unless other symptoms of illness present. So without the order, policy would have kicked in and I would of had to exclude the child. This way he was able to stay in school unless really ill. Ended up only sending him home once out of about a dozen times.
