Share with me all your knowledge, links to articles, studies, and any other info you have about the Peth laboratory test. I'm an old timer RN recovering addict/alcoholic. 15 years clean and sober. Had IPN eval a few months back at BoardPrep in Tampa and nail tox, urine tox both came back clean but blood peth was positive. Been clean and sober for 15 years now. Labs were collected at time of eval by BoardPrep staff and procedure was lax but at the time I was more worried for them than for me. When I popped positive I started reviewing the whole visit in my head and something really shady is going on there and with IPN. Share your thoughts and info with me please.

Unfortunately I am not aware of the medical community acknowledging the possibility of a false positive PETH test. From everything I have seen here on this board, the monitoring programs consider this a positive. There is nothing I have seen online that can cause a false positive PETH. I am hoping in your case that the negative nail test will mean something to them.
Why did you have an eval if you have been clean and sober for 15 years?
Let me add that I recommend a lawyer if you don't already have one. I will try to see if I can find anything more about PETH. I don't trust that it is always accurate personally. Good luck to you.
I was referred to IPN years ago and didn't follow through. Raised my kids and had another career and now how the means to do IPN to get back into nursing, just want to do some part time nursing. Went through treatment back then but didn't do IPN. Course my license was suspended since I didn't do IPN so I have to get IPN eval , etc. before requesting a hearing before the FL BON to get reinstated. . From what I am finding out through research is that IPN is in bed with the majority of these evaluators that of course are connected with their own treatment centers that of course they recommend you go to. They are all corrupt as hell!!! The more diagnoses they c an tag on you, the higher level of treatment they can recommend, and the more lab tests/frequency they can justify, and the more $$$MONEY$$$ is made!!! The corruption runs deep and probably even extends out into the Board of Nursing. Yes there are legitimate nurse and cases that need it. Of course I knew I would need to be monitored and would get the 5 year standard contract, yada, yada, yada will all the bells and whistles that everyone gets. I do not need Something is seriously corrupt in this whole system and I am going to get to the bottom of it. Now that I am retired I have the all the time in the world and all the means and resources to research this and dig in deep and work on getting changes made to the corrupt system. I am hearing WAY too many stories similar to mine.
Thank you Lisacar130.

Good luck fighting a positive pEth. It's a cumulative test over the previous 21 days prior the the blood being drawn. A pEth is not used to determine occasional drinking, it's used to confirm habitual drinking.
I did want to mention that hair and nails don't pick up alcohol, that I am aware of. Also, in the absence of any other evidence they are not supposed to hold a positive anything against you. I would say that a previous recommendation for IPN and subsequent non-compliance until now is not absence of any other evidence. Good luck!

I also had a bad experience with Board Prep. I was 2 yrs sober and had been sent there by IPN for an intial eval after my license had been suspended for 3 yrs. Had hair blood and urine test done. Everything was negative except my peth test was 2 points above the level. This happened to someone else I know in my support group. I definitely do not recommend anyone going to Board Prep in Tampa

WOW!! I know these posts are older but I also went to board prep and they said my PEth came back one point over. I had been sober for only months prior to the test but sober long enough to pass the PEth. I am doing another eval with a different evaluator and I am in fear that they are all corrupt. I have now been sober for one year.
I went there to ask for my results in person. The guy was all weird and shaky. Seemed shady as ever to me! He gave me a print out and it didn’t look like legit lab work paperwork. If I were able to I would bring them to court. I don’t want this to continue to happen to people.
Email me if you can I would like to talk more about this. [email protected]

that is really strange. the others that were negative were more invasive. my guess is lab error in some way. they probably wouldn't admit it tho. request a DO OVER.
