PEth false positive

Nurses Recovery

Yep. Had to go for an eval because I was fired from my job(long story ) . Wasn't worried about uds, PEth, hair test at all. No drink in 16 months. PEth came back positive, and they are treating it like a relapse. I did nothing wrong. Trying to trust God and the process. Folks I'm here to tell you... The PEth is not an accurate test. I'll never trust it again.

Back at you. Let me know If it comes through. Still says it does not.

This is my biggest fear. I have long history of false positive Etg. Sent to 3 rehabs Now get PETH in IPN worry every time. I know that it's not accurate. They thought Etg was perfect. Since I started in 2006 Etg levels have been raised and now they think PEth is the holy grail.

There is research showing that PEth is not accurate. But I agree with you IPN believes in this test.

Specializes in ER, ICU/CCU, Open Heart OR Recovery, Etc.

Friendofbill, I got your second one too lol. The messaging app does that on occasion.

In a few years they will have figured out that PEth isn't the Holy Grail either. Gabby if you can post links to the research you have, it would be cool.

Hire an attorney or better yet, tell the nursing board in your state "where they can go." Then just go take a short, easy, class in "Medical Assisting", work in a posh physicians office, expand your employment opportunities, & call yourself a "nurse."

Another nurse in IPN had and exit evaluation after a 1 year modified contract. They had negative hair and urine, PEth came back positive.

They want to send her to inpatient rehab out of state. She was pulled out of work.

She was given a 2 year contract able to be te be released in 1 with an exit evaluation.

This is is like my Etg nightmare back in 2006 when any one testing positive was guilty for drinking etoh.

They now now think it is possible for false positive Etg but a positive PEth is considered guilty.

I'd like to see that research too. I sure can't find it

I thought I had more research about how PEth false positive but I don't. It only says there is limited research done and needs further investigation

Gabby... Did you get my PM? I'd like to talk to that nurse that goes to the same addictionologist I do.

Update... so the treatment facility in Tampa got back to me and they want $15,000 just in case I'm there for 2 months. I've spoken with two of the doctors there and they are both pretty disgusted by that. They know that this is ridiculous and I shouldn't need to come to treatment at all. The doctor had to make the recommendation so that they could keep their IPN privileges.

My peTH level was 20 BTW. 20 is the pos/neg cutoff. Unbelievable.

So Friday morning at 9 o'clock I'm going for a second opinion. I'm going to the Florida Recovery Center here in Gainesville. The doctor there I've never been a huge fan of but I hear he has softened over the years. And he happens to have known my sponsor for 20 years. Hoping for the best it's pretty much a Hail Mary.

Wow. Keep us posted. Right on the button and they still want you to go treatment?????

Yes. This facility is in business because of IPN and prn. They have very few fully paying clients. So the doctor can't do what he knows is right for fear of the facility losing those consults. You know I like the people at the facility, they do good needed work. Without IPN I would have lost my license years ago. But this situation is unethical if not criminal. I'm the one who will pay the price.
