Pet Peeves

What is your pet peeve? With everything a nurse has to deal with in a day, the one thing that gets on my nerves is someone who takes the garbage bag out of the can but doesn't replace the liner. It makes me psycho. How bizarre is that?

Latest Pet Peeve...

Scheduling a mandatory nursing meeting in the middle of my sleep.

Since I work 11-7, I don't mind attending meetings but at a reasonable hour...say 10am or 8pm...either will work. But 3:30pm? Doesn't work. I have to break up my sleep to attend. And they want my peak performance?

I want administration to call a mandatory nurses meeting at 3:30am for a change.

That was always a big one with me when I worked nights. I would tell work, my friends, and my family to not call me at noon if they don't want me to call them at midnight. That usually got their attention...

the truth is each shift will have it's own issues specifically because it is day shift or evening shift or night shift.

Very true.

You are absolutely correct.

Administration everywhere is extremely insensitive to the night shift!

I actually quit teaching CPR at one employer because they kept insisting on the night staff coming in at very inconvenient times to renew their CPR.

I'm a day worker so coming in at 2 am would be hell for me, just like 2 pm would be awful for the night people.

I suggested times that were more meeting in the middle for all such as 7-9 pm or even start at 7 am for those getting off work and can renew before going home.

But the other instructors refused to come in "so early" at 7 am and didn't want to stay after 5 pm either. That would interefere with their lives.

I kept reminding them that we are here for them, they are not here for us.

It didn't fly so I quit doing it.

Thank You for your support.

OK, call me quirky...

I love to orientate...precept...teach...guide...lead ya down the garden path...or whatever.

Send all the newbies to me. I will welcome them with open arms. And I will make sure they replace the garbage can liners..lol.:rotfl:

Ok I am quirky.

Go ahead and give them all milk of mag before bed. I was crowned the poop queen once, with a paper tira and everything. I was the talk of the town. LOL

Hey, just give me a donut with sprinkles when I'm done.

Nurse MS, is that you?:chuckle

You can ditto the above in regards to lasix before bed and sub pee for poop. You may be the poop queen, but I reign as the catheter queen (long story) :D :D

Well done to the noc shifters! Better yet, our meetings are scheduled at 1:30pm.. always. I quit going, I keep saying that when I work from 7p-7a, no meeting is mandatory at 1:30 in the afternoon. :zzzzz

My other favorite thing is when you walk into one of your g-tube pts rooms and the bottle is dry and off and who knows how long it's been that way, and did I mention that this pt is a diabetic?

I also love it when I get to follow the CNAs on rounds and take all of the pt's IV and g-tube tubing out from under them. I've worked with these people for a year with the same problem, it's not rocket science, you'd think that after about the 2,000th time we'd figure it out.

I love it when people don't have the common courtesy to actually call in, they just don't show up and then, oh look, they still have a job here! :flamesonb

Don't you love health care, no other profession for me!

Nope, but it must be my long lost twin.:chuckle

Ya Hoo!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who ranks in the elimination department. Gonna make you a crown. LOL:w00t:
