Personal Question Regarding Pap Smears

Published

Help!! 11 months ago I had my first ASCUS pap smear at age 41, all others before that were normal. I just had another physical and was shocked to receive word of another ASCUS pap smear. My husband and I were both virgins when we met as teenagers and have never been with anyone else. I'm really scared. They suggested a repeat pap in three months, but I chose to skip that and have scheduled myself for a colposcopy. Why would I have two ASCUS results so far apart? I've looked on the internet and one area said you could have cancer, but the sample just wasn't showing it if two ASCUS results come back. I know this would be a slow growing cancer, but I'm still really worried. I don't have s/s and really don't have much of a family history of it, in fact only think one cousin might have had issues with her paps but that was years ago. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks so much.

This is a series of questions best-asked of your health care provider. Having had a "bad" pap some years ago and resulting colpo and cryo, I can feel for you. But the answers you seek are of a medical nature and need to come from the ones who know you----your health care providers.

I wish you health and happiness.

Also you could, if you really want answers on the www, try http://www.medscape.com or http://www.medline.com

But no info online can take the place of that you will get from your doctor---and if in doubt, always you have the right to seek a second opinion.

Best wishes.
