personal insurance

so I just renewed my insurance with NSO. The usual deal, no biggie, but this year it asked me if i wanted to add a rider that would benefit certain specialties such as those in education who may not have direct patient care. While I'd say that 90% of what I do is based on what I do directly with a student, I wondered what else this may capture. I figured for the 25 bucks, i'd splurge. We live in such a litigious society that you never know when that scary envelope from the lawyer's office is coming. Lord knows that I gotta have my own back around here.

Hmm I didn't have that pop up for me when I renewed in the winter. You can never be too careful especially when it's just $25.

I will have to look at that the next time I renew.

I once encountered someone teaching electronic fetal monitoring who was arguing that nurses didn't need malpractice insurance because our employers covered it. My co-worker saw the astonished look on my face and said "I know they have insurance, it's to protect them not me and they'll throw me under the bus so quickly. Confidentiality would make it impossible for me to blacken their name afterward too, I'll keep my insurance, thank you!"

for the relatively low cost, i don't mind paying it. I can't tell you how many times during the school year something crazy will happen and i'll think good thing i have my OWN insurance.

As the organizer for education offerings in my state association, that is rider I will be adding.
