Periop & HUP Gateway to the OR

Hello all!

I'm scheduled to start the Periop program at DCCC in the fall, but HUP's Gateway to the OR would be so much better for me right now! Anybody have insight on HUP's Gateway to the OR?

Looking at HUP's website, the Gateway to the OR isn't a course- it's their orientation program. Have you been hired on with them? If not, it appears you aren't eligible.

Thanks for the reply... But why exactly would I not be eligible?

If you aren't a new hire/current employee of HUP. you aren't eligible. This isn't a class like ACLS that you can sign up for it's a hospital based orientation for internal employees. Just like you couldn't go through PICU new employee orientation at CHoP if you work at St. Christopher's.

That's obvious & I'm very competent. It's a job posting that you apply for. If hired, you're oriented just as you would for ANY position. What I asked for was insight. Meaning if anyone that has been hired & gone thru the program at HUP had any more information for me than whats provided on the website. If you would have read the Eligibility Criteria you would have observed that I am in fact 100% eligible instead of assuming that I'm not qualified. Thanks anyway.

That's not what you implied.

You never stated that you applied for a job at HUP or that you are a staff nurse at HUP.

The responses were to the way your post was written, especially since DCCC is a school and one pays to take the classes there just like someone who pays to take an ACLS course or TNCC course. Many assume specialized orientations at teaching facilities are available to the general public.

You asked to compare an on the job orientation program to a 15 credit post licensing course at a community college nursing school. It's difficult to compare a facility specific orientation program to a paid college program. If one is not a HUP employee they are not eligible for their program.

This is so obvious to me I didn't realize that I would have to elaborate on wht I was implying & I never asked for a comparison. Go find someone else's post to scrutinize. Thnx again!
