So I currently hate my full time job right now. Others and I have had problems with management, the staffing, how things are run, etc etc. I was able to get an offer for a full time position at a different hospital and they were nice enough to give me 1 months time to get everything situated with my employer.
In short, I want to go Per Diem on the unit; and have a meeting with Hr next week. If accepted, how much time is given to switch from full time to per diem. Do I start right away on the new schedule as per diem?

That depends on your hospital’s policy. You gotta check the handbook or ask HR. I had work 4 weeks as FT before they let me switch to per diem. Best of luck.

Ok, thank you for replying. I’m to start in September so that would give me enough time if I do have to work 4 weeks of my schedule. Unfortunately the “ HR” representative I’m to speak to is out until next week Friday, and I would really like to talk to someone now ; or at least in the next coming days.

I agree that it completely depends on your unit and hospital. For instance in my current position, they don't even allow per diem so that wouldn't be an option for me.

When I stepped down at a previous job, (I had a new full time job else where) they refused to let me go per diem there. Luckily, my new job gave me plenty of OT.

Like others said it depends on where you work. Some workplaces don't just let you switch to per diem; it is a budget issue and not always up to the manager either. Sometimes, you have to have an job opening advertised for per diem, resign your full-time job, interview, be accepted and go through all the HR paperwork because it is considered changing jobs.
