Pensacola pay rates

Published

Hey. I'm new to the state and have read that the pay rate is low for nurses. I will be working as an LPN for a while, can anyone tell me what the average pay is at a hospital and nursing home in Pensacola area? Any info on pay rates with staffing agencies? It was $24/hr in MI. Thanks for any info.

The pay here sucks. Cost of living has doubled for owning a home and even doubled for rent. My rent for a 3 BR townhouse was $1250!!! With a pay rate of a puny and pathetic 19.47 per/hr I cant do this! Hurricane Katrina caused the housing to sky rocket. Its the old "supply and demand" business term. People took advantage and many realtors got rich. Hmmmm...maybe I should go into real estate?

TRUE TRUE TRUE!

I recently got back from a trip to Pensacola, and made a point to check out the market, this is what I found:

West Florida Regional Hosp. $16.00/hr and not very friendly. The ADON

told me point blank, she prefers "locally trained

nurses."

Baptist Hospital: $15.00-16.50, but very friendly.

Sacred Heart Hosp.: $16.00, but hinted at the possibilities of negotiating.

North Okaloosa Med. Ctr (Crestview): $16.00-17.00, and very friendly

Hopes this helps. I was thinking of moving back to P'cola, but the housing costs are ridiculous right now.

I don't think they have gotten (housing prices) quite as bad as what I am experiencing in Bradenton (Tampa Bay area). I only make 20 an hour (that's with extra for 6 years being an LPN) and the average cost of a house is between 250-300k a year.

Isn't Pensacola a lot lower than that? I'm thinking about moving back.

Also, I've heard Sacred Heart gives up to an 8000 dollar sign on bonus.

Presently they are giving a 16000 sign on bonus. I know because a few nurses recently left Baptist to get the sign on bonus.

What are the terms for that bonus? How do they distribute the money to you? Is the going rate for a graduate RN $16 per/hr?

just go to an online real estate website and you will see what the costs of homes are. I can tell you they have doubled. Homes are not cheap and rentals are not cheap anymore. It all happened after Hurricane Ivan. I thought I was living in California for a while with the housing costs! I would strongly urge you to contact a realtor before your move. And make sure where ever you decide to work is going to pay you enough. Because the pay rates here suck.

Not sure about the terms for the bonus, but I'm sure the hospital gets the better end of the deal;)

They don't give it out up front- it is distributed monthly. If I'm not mistaken I think the graduate RN rate is about $16.75 now for sacred heart. Don't quote me though:uhoh21:

Either way -the pay here does suck and housing costs is ridiculous.

Here in Bradenton at the hospital I work at, graduate RN's make 18.56. But, to have a 2 bedroom decent but not overly decent...I pay 909 a month.

That is incredible. Here in central Alabama, the starting rate for GN is $18/hr, and I rent a 3 BR House for $550/mth.

I'm wondering about going with an agency in Pensacola vs a hospital. (but still hoping to work NICU as much as I can!) How did you get the info about Sacred Heart's bonuses, and does anyone know what a good agency rate would be? (8 years experience, level 3 NICU) thanks -

ugh the pay rates have not increased in six years.I moved from there making those prices.Baptist was extremely good to me.They also have several outpatient (doc in box) clincs you can work in.Sacred Heart paid okay but I did not work there.I only worked private duty for a company that seviced their private duty.I hear they are profit sharing.

West Florida Hospital was bought by the same company that bought out the home health company I worked for....COLUMBIA MEDIAL CENTER>

Whew!!! Not a good thing. That is when I quit.
