Pensacola is probably the lowest paying place in the state...just for you to know.

I thought Lakeland was the lowest in the state...oh hell, pay in Florida sucks !!! :angryfire

Well, I dunno Jim. It might be. But, I know that as an LPN, I am making the same in this bigger city that I was up in Plains, GA (a one stop light town).

EXACTLY !!!! Shouldn't you be making better money in the "bigger" city, no matter if you are an LPN or RN? :wink2:

Though it has been a while since I was in Pensacola, the COL as well as payrates are quite low in that part of the state. The dominant employer is the military, and there are few tourists there.

That said, it is one of the more old time still "Southern" parts of the state without as much development. Though, there are a lot of non-Southerners there, people tend to be helpful and neighborly in many places.

It also has lots and lots of churches. Religion is big there (generally of the mainstream protestant or pentocostal type).

Not alot of shopping malls, but decent fresh seafood and the beach is nice. Lots of historical sites, also.

Belle, yeah..I guess you could say that P'cola is a quaint little place. It's not so big that it is overcrowded but it's just big enough. You have to decide what's important to you.

Jim, I meant that I dunno if Lakeland pays less. :uhoh3: But, yeah...Florida does suck with the pay. I'm thinking that after I move to the Tampa Bay area I'll get a raise. And, the cost of living is only slightly higher there than it is here.

I just got back from Pensacola last night after a weekend vacation. I've been planning on moving to the beach when I get out of school and I think I've decided that Pensacola is where I'll move to. The beach is gorgeous and it isn't very overcrowded like some places in FL. Downtown P'cola is beautiful also. I have a friend living in Gulf Breeze and I think that is where I'd like to live. It's far enough that you are out of the way of tourists but it is close enough that you can be at the beach in 10-15 mins when you want to go. My friend's sister works at Baptist and has for several years and loves it.

Is it cheap to live there because of all the hurricanes the pass through. :)

rjflyn, Tampa? P'cola really doesn't get too many hurricanes. Every few years there might be a big one (category 2-3).

Isnt once ever few years enough. I personally wouldnt wanna replace my home that often, but it is the price you pay to be warm all year and not have to deal with snow. :) Rj

pay w/o diff will be around 18-19 with some exp (new grad pay starts at 16 i believe), with diff one can make around 22 on nights. 2 out of 3 hosp in pcola are offering 12,000 sign on bonuses for 2 yr commitment. Openings are abundant!!!!!! i work at one of the hosps offering that bonus. am personally interested in going to california to enjoy those state mandated pt ratios.
