Looking For Other Pa Nurses!!!!

Hello all,

I'm taking this chance to meet other nurses in PA. Who knows, maybe I've meant some of you. I graduated a year ago, and meant a lot of other nursing students in clinicals, and such.

Anyway, if you're interested in joining this discussion to meet others in PA who are recent grads., leave some comments.

Anyway, I'm wondering what kinds of hours everyone else is working, where people are working, what kinds of skills you're all learning, and your current job satisfaction, etc. Right now, I work quite a number of hours in a cardiovascular surgical unit. It's pretty good experience. Sometimes I find I get taken advantage of to work a lot of hours, but most times I don't mind, cuz I get a lot of good experience. I may move on to CRNA school someday. Any body else have grad. school aspriations?

Anyway, if you're a recent grad. or from PA, join the discussion, and let people know what's out there for new grads.

Please help me resurrect this Forum

Hi, I am a fairly new RN that just got out of med-surg, worked in it for 8 months. I am a new hire at a hospital in Philadelphia for the ER department. I am excited but very intimidated. I worked in the Cardiac Ultrasound field for yrs prior to going back for nursing. Anyhow, I need some guidance if you would. I start this position in a week and I will be doing a massive amount of reading. The nursing coordinator and head of ER want to "mold" me into a supernurse.....I don't mind, love to read, but I want to start on my own. Is there a basic book to start me out that won't make me go...."Am I really retarded because this is over my head".Could you help me out? Would love to converse with any other ER nurses or critical care nurses also because I will eventually have to obtain my ACLS. Thanks so much! Bindy

hi sarah, i am a nurse in pa...philly area, and would be interested in doing pool/per diem work for some extra dough. never did it before and don't want to get in over my head. i graduated in aug of 2004 and then became registered. med/surg or psych is handable at this point but just took new position as er rn for three days a week. let me know. thanks! bindy

I just grad this past August.. work in Hollidaysburg, but grew up about 40 minutes outside of Philly, near New Hope & Washingtons Crossing. I work 2nd shift in a LTC facility, although it's not my niche, so I'm keeping my eyes & ears open.

WOW! am I the only nurse in southcentral PA who posts on this board? I live and work in Chambersburg, (30 mi from Gettysburg) in Franklin County. Oh I forgot, I work in a very busy ER...going into my 8th year in the ER (11 years in nursing) I should have my head examined.

I am not a native Pennsylvanian, nor am I new to nursing. Originally a westerner (born in Montana and raised in Colorado) I have found that I am tooooo far from the mountains! :chuckle[/quote

Where do you work?? I too live in c burg. I work at washington county hospital in hagerstown. Tried it at c burg hospital and didn't care for the politics!!!

I do like it there. I had worked at Rehab in Mech. and at Holy Spirit before going to Pinnacle. It is my "home". As a nurse there, you can be your patients advocate. You are allowed to speak to the Drs and let them know what you think. Our ICUs are GREAT! I was a pt in their ICU following a Resp arrest, on the vent, in a coma. I do not doubt nursing care was a factor in my recovery. The ICU was recently redone, with nursing imput. It is great! I do like the nursing supervisors.

Hi there! Hope its ok to jump in! :) I have just moved back to PA this week from Ohio with my husband. I was wondering if anyone out there had ever heard anyone talk about working in corrections... I am an LPN, I have been an LPN for 2 yrs and was an aide for 10 before. I just got hired at a local jail and was wondering if anyone out there knew what it was like... I have always done LTC namely Alzheimers. I really think I will enjoy it. It is for sure different. I am looking forward to it. I had really wanted to work at Mayview state hosp. I put my app. in a few weeks back with the state. Dont know if I will ever hear back..lol Never know, I guess. Take care and if you guys ever go to lunch in Pitts. let me know, I will be there!
