Penn State World Campus online RN-BSN program

Nursing Students Online Learning

Updated:   Published

Is anyone here currently attending (or have you already attended or are you thinking about attending) the Penn State University online RN-BSN program? If so, I'd love to hear from you and your reviews and perspective and any advice or recommendations you have to offer.

I will be graduating with my ASN in May and am looking to start an online BSN program fall semester.

After doing some research, PSU and Ohio University are on my short list. There is a thread dedicated to OU, but not really anything about PSU. So, if you're doing the online RN-BSN at Penn State, I want to hear from you!

I have a cache of college credits from a previous life, so I have most of the core done. I only need two other courses in addition to the upper-level nursing courses, and Penn State allows you to take the core classes concurrently with your nursing courses, rather than having to wait until you finish your core to begin the nursing program. So, if I go full time I could be finished in a year (start Fall 2011, finish Summer 2012).

On paper, I like everything I've read about PSU. Now I'm just looking to collect actual anecdotal evidence from those who have been there.

hi everyone,

im really curious, i just applied to penn state online rn-bsn program. i never thought i would want to further my education, so back in nursing school, i never really cared much about my grades, but now i am thinking of going back and just recently applied to penn state, im freaked out that my gpa might not be good enough, im curious about those that have been accepted into this program in the past, if you could please share what the average gpa was, or what your exact gpa is and also, how long did you have to wait to get accepted or for your application to be processed and receiving an acceptance letter? if you could answer one or all of these questions, that would be great. thanks all.

i am currently in my last semester and i loved the program. i think it only took them about 4 weeks after my application was complete to get back to me with a decision. i was not sent an email right away, i just checked the site and saw a "congratulations" message...i was notified via snail mail also about 1-2 weeks later. my gpa was 3.4 at the time...i'm not sure what the average stats are but i know that most (if not all nursing schools) won't pass you without a 2.8 -3.0 so i'm sure you will be fine. i have found everyone in the program to be really helpful with specifics...have you tried talking to anyone at the school?

Hi ONCRN2011 I am also in the penn state rn to bsn online program and I only have three classes left 417 465 475, I was curious to know how did you fulfill those clinicals

I had to arrange a preceptor and get her approved...then I completed my clinical hours with the preceptor. The instructor will give you examples of what type of facility you can complete them in.

Thank you all for this helpful info! I just found out this morning that I have been accepted for the Fall 2012 for PSU's RN-BSN program. I'm so excited!

Hi RN20102010

Please let me know what were the Fall, Spring, Summer of Penn State U look like since I plan to load the credits and complete BSN within 3 semesters. Thanks! (PS I am a full time RN 12 hrs shifts)

Hello All,

I am considering applying for the RN-BSN program for this up coming fall semester. For all of those enrolled/completed the program, how do you think the program is? Are the classes well rounded? Would I be able to complete by BSN in 1 yr? Also when applying did you write the "optional" personal statement, and where were your stats if you don't mind?

Thanks for any replies,

Austin

Hi Austin,

Please contact "academic advising" --> Penn State Online | Hours of Operation

Make sure you note all questions and concerns prior.

Good luck!

Hi All, well this is an old thread but I just found it because Penn state was recommended to me by my teacher for the BSN to DNP program. I just started to look into this program and read over the brochure. I did not see specialty areas though so I'm a little confused. Is that done only in the clinical hours and in the practice project?

How has everyone afforded this school? (cost will be around 50k or $820 per credit).

Hi Direwolf, I am not sure if you started this program yet, but I am looking to start the MSN to DNP program. I am having a hard time finding info as well.

Steph
