It is pretty sad when you come on to talk to people and as soon as you do a thread suddenly stops with communication. I am just asking for advice about situations not trying to make friends here. I truly think AN is an unsupportive community for prenursing and nursing students. I literally can't stand the school I currently attend IMO as it is so disorgabized , not to mention 90% of the student body are nursing or pre nursing students. I may need to consider another institution. The nursing advisors were to quick to have me change majors so I must second guess the college I am attending.
OK if you say so then I guess so. Truly I don't have a problem obviously people here take offense to things others say and that is not not my issue that's others issues. I know what I need to work on as far as my career path and who I need to talk to and things I need to do in order to be successful in my future and I am doing so by improving my grades. My grades truly are not all that bad but one or two that I need to retake. I see it this way if the nursing department tells me I cant change from the medical assisting to nursing then its fine no worries its their loss not mine. Nurses are over rated these days IMO. Don't get me wrong I respect the profession but every time I turn around all I hear is people saying they want to be a nurse. Medical Assisting may not be as bad as everyone thinks it is. I will be working for doctors more less as an MA not nurses.
If you have Fs & Ws it will make it hard to get into a nursing program. How many times have you taken these courses? Have you looked at the requirements for admission to nursing programs? A lot of nursing programs limit the number of times you can repeat a course, if at all.
You are getting sage advice from experienced nurses. If you are having that much difficulty in your pre-reqs, imagine how difficult nursing school will be.
Like I said I only have one F and a W. The W is for a class that don't even go toward the nursing program. By the way, I didn't fail the course or have a w due to not understanding the material , it was due to family and health issues at the time that I couldn't avoid. I understand A&P as I have a C in it have only taken it once and as for English I have the F but when I took that course I took it in 8 weeks while I lived in a shelter with 68 other women and children yo be honest it was difficult. I stuck through it as long as I could with having only 3 computers in the facility and mind you they were to be used for finding jobs and applying for housing and such. We could use them for school but mainly the kids only so, I am not making excuses here as I know nursing is competitive yes my grades need improving, but through it all I never gave up even after losing a good friend I've known since high school recently passed away at 34 years old of serious health complications. Many tell me nursing is hard that I should try this or try that and I respect all of for what you do, but I am not ready to give up the battle yet. Thank you to all the nurses out there, your highly appreciated.

Everyone has struggles. You have an F in English, a C in A&P & you have to retake these classes it might not be enough to raise your GPA to be competitive to get in. Remember, just because it says the minimum GPA is 2.X doesn't mean you will get accepted with a 2.X GPA. I'm sure most people applying have a 3.0+.
Not to mention you have to take the TEAS VI & if you don't smash it out of the park, your chances get even slimmer. I am looking at my local community college for a bridge program. It says you need a 70% on the TEAS to continue in the admission process. I know I should realistically aim for a score in the high 80s-low 90's to be competitive & a realistic candidate.
The TEAS will probably be difficult for you since you have to retake English & A&P & those are both on the exam. If I were you would look into either a different route or career.
I'm sorry, tell that to everyone else who fails in nursing school to choose a different career path OK. Until then don't tell me what I should choose. Two grades are not gonna break me, I see people on this forum that completely fail a nursing program yet they are still encouraged to try nursing. IMO you people know nothing of what your speaking. By the way I took English prior and had a B at my university. I tried to retake it to get the A in 8 weeks and got the F due to unfoseen circumstances. I took it in 2012. Just because people here tell me to change my career choice don't mean I will. How about telling other students that get on here talking of low gpas and TEAS scores to change their career choice as well.

I don't know what to tell you. You make posts about how you don't have good grades & nursing programs are notoriously competitive. If you don't have the highest grades and/or high entrance test scores you probably won't get in, that's reality.
Honestly I would tell anyone who can't get a grasp of any of the sciences not to go into nursing.
Why are you *so* concerned about other people (people failing out of nursing school)? They are not you & once you fail out of a nursing program it is increasingly difficult to get into another program unless you pay an arm & leg.
You either will get into a program or you won't. But from my experience you need stellar grades & good entrance test scores to get into any nursing program around me.
Ps. If you don't want opinions don't post on a forum. Because any & everyone can comment as long as they abide by the TOS. Obviously not everyone has the same opinion as you.
I'm a little confused. I looked at some of your other postings and you go from saying this forum is not a good place to come for support and advice, to saying it's a great place and you have received support. I, too, did not see anyone saying anything negative about medical assistants, only that the pay is low (which is true) and that if your end goal is to be a nurse, an MA program is just going to take time and money you could be putting towards your ultimate goal of being a nurse (also true).
If you have an F and a D, and a C in A&P I, and if your GPA was once low enough to be on academic probation, you do have a tough road ahead of you to rebuild your GPA. If the programs you're interested in allow it, retake those classes you did poorly in. This will help your overall GPA and make your pre-requisite GPA more competitive. You also need to knock your TEAS out of the park. Buy the book and study from it, reviewing and working to understand the material, especially areas you aren't as strong in. Depending on the program, a strong TEAS may help compensate for a more mediocre GPA (though it will absolutely not make up for it entirely). If your GPA is below a 2.5, most programs will not even allow you to apply, and if they do, a 2.5 is unlikely to get you in. I know you keep writing about people who fail out of nursing school and are encouraged to keep trying, but their situation is different than yours because they are already in a nursing program, and many will allow you to retake a course or two if you fail (at my school this was anything less than an 80 for the semester).
Some others have recommended you consider an LPN program first if you really want to be a nurse, and I would echo this advice. Once you've successfully completed an LPN program you can look to do an LPN-RN bridge program, and from there an RN-BSN if that is your long-term goal. If you're unable to get into an LPN program, then you can reconsider the MA route. One last thing--if your life situation is still as chaotic as it was when you got the poor grades, I would highly recommend waiting until things stabilize a bit. The last thing you need is to be trying to make a better grade and being unable to because of your situation. You can always get your CNA certification and work somewhere in the meantime, which will give you a glimpse of the healthcare field and a way to make a little money at the same time.
Good luck.
Either I'm a little confused or maybe oversimplifying but I don't see why it matters at all what anyone says or recommends if you're going to do what you want regardless of what they say. That about right? Advisors may be telling you to change majors because they know something about the nursing program that you don't, maybe that you aren't competitive enough with your grades to get in. Maybe other people have failed a class or two and still gotten into a nursing program but that doesn't really matter because it's you who have to get in now, and whether you get in is all that needs to matter to you.
If you post messages on a public forum like this you will get all kinds of answers. Sometimes the answers aren't supportive of your choices but that doesn't mean they are being cruel to you in means that they don't think you're making good choices, and if you didn't want any input then why would you post? How you react to that is up to you too. Maybe you will bring your grades up enough to get into a school and maybe you won't. What anyone thinks of that still doesn't matter, but it might help you to pay attention to some of this and maybe it will help you make the right choices in the end.
Thanks I am just going to do the LPN route. I have spoken with several campuses nursing departments from the school I attend they all say the same thing. I'm so upset with myself at all of this, I'm pulling an A in A&P 2 this semester because I have figured out that it was my study habits and poor test taking. Yes I had unforseen situations that should of in no way got in the way of me earning above average grades and gpa . I am the one to blame, I will do anything I have to whether its earning an MA degree to boost my overall GPA then going back for nursing or starting with my LPN in the meantime working in LTC as a CNA to gain experience. I commend all those that worked hard to get where they are though I am sure it was not easy to earn the grades they did. I can't be frustrated at anyone but myself and I appreciate the advice I have been given as many of you if not all of you are experienced nurses or CNAs or other healthcare professional giving professional advice. I'm sorry its taken a while to reply, I have had to do some thinking about what I need to do to improve my situation. Again I appreciate the advice and will do what I need to be successful.

I read a lot of threads here (not necessarily this one) where eventually somebody says something like, "If you think it's like this everywhere and everybody tells you the same thing, the problem may not be with everybody else. It's with you."
I wish you well as you try to figure out your path and how to go down it. You have had some good advice here.
