Hello! I am currently a pediatric travel nurse. I am looking for a career that will.get me away from the 12 hour shifts. I am a single mom.of a 5 year old that is growing up way too fast. I am missing out on so many things, and as he gets older, I know he'll be needing me more and more due to homework and activities.

I am looking for advice. What are some other nusing positions that I could look into that would allow me a day job, not 12 hours? I would be willing to further my education. Of course I know I could go into endo or OR or PACU, but I was curious if there's anything I may not be aware of that would allow.me to continue working with children. Any advice? Thank you!

Do you know how I would go about finding that type of job? Any companies? Thank you for your reply!

To find local companies- I would call either a social worker/ case manager at a children's hospital OR ask to talk to an RT in a peds pulmonology office. They will know the companies if Google can't help you.

I've had a side gig as a private duty nurse for home vent kids for 30+ years and while the pay is not great- when you find the right client- it's almost like not working.

Specializes in NICU.

You could look into a clinic job with regular business hours.

Specializes in ICU/community health/school nursing.

Have you considered school nursing? Someone with pediatric skills and flexibility is highly desirable. Our district actually has travelling nurses who sub in when we're out.

Good luck.
